ftreloar
We will be doing the Inside Passage on the Sapphire Princess next Aug. (yes, Aug. 2005 - sister in law is getting married on the ship). We are not sure which cabin to book? Inside either front or back or ship (it's the most inexpensive). Also do alot of people take their kids on the Alaskan cruises - ours will be 9 & 13 & not sure if they would really appreciate the beauty. Comments would be appreciated? Thanks
rogue
Hi and welcome to CruiseCrazies, Just got back last month from an Alaskan cruise. I really don't think that it matters much if you're in the front or the back of the ship. The Inside Passage has very calm waters. As for kids on the cruise, we went over the Fourth of July, and there were very few kids on board. It was chilly (temp anywhere from 50 to 75), and only a few people used the pools. The ports are mostly sightseeing and shopping. From what I hear, children do get bored on Alaskan cruises. Of course, I don't know yours, but mine would not have enjoyed it. Alaska, for me, was a great adventure. This was our best cruise. The place is magnificent. Anywhere you are is beautiful. Whatever you do, enjoy. jbond
We did Alaska a couple of years ago and took our kids and grandkids with us. The grandkids were 13 & 15 at the time. They enjoyed the cruise, we saw some wildlife, bears, orcas, etc and they were definitely impressed with the ice floes in Disenchantment Bay, Hubbard Glacier. They felt like they were reliving Titanic. We were there at the end of June and it was very cool. We sailed RCI Legend of the Seas and it has a fully enclosed Solarium Pool, so they got some pool time in. The outside pool was empty. They met up with a group of about 10 other kids and had a good time with them. I have a photo album posted at http://community.webshots.com/album/44070567WRGxPU Legend of the Seas 2 covers the Inland Passage.
sailinglisa
I was on the Dawn Princess sailing on 7/26. The weather can range from cold and rainy to sunny and comfortable. The pools on Princess are heated, so there were kids in them all the time regardless of the weather (boy were they surprised when the adults started using the pools and hot tubs as the weather improved....you could actually see some of the shocked that they could not find a hot tub without an adult in it! lol) I think kids will love Alaska...it is a unique and beautiful place. The kids on my cruise were not bored EXCEPT on sea days when they could not get off this ship and burn off some of that excess energy. As for the cabin to book - others are right when they say that in the inside passage it is usually calm, so cabin location is not that important. Try and pick a cabin that is close to an elevator as it will be more convenient for you. Find the best cabin at the best price and jump on it!
