KeithnRita
Ellen, We just use what is provided--we bring to much stuff on our cruises anyway. If you have prescription goggles you should bring those.
jbond
This is a very old and much discussed question. Personally, I prefer to bring my own. If you see how they "disinfect" the equipment and see all those mouths that "inhale" those snorkels, I'm sure that you'll be glad that you brought your own. We usually leave fins at home, but snorkels are another issue.
TheSkipper
I could not agree with jbond more. You do want your own snorkel tube and probably your own mask, the rest of the stuff will not be in contact with your face. We bought masks and snorkels first, the added fins, then later inflatable vests, so now we have all our own stuff, but like jbond said we leave most everything at home, but the masks and snorkels.
DaCruzNut
I'm an avid snorkeler, and drive down to Key Largo (about 1 1/2 hours away) on a very regular basis. Of course, I use my own gear in The Keys, or anywhere else local. I always used to take my own gear, and found that it took up a lot of room, and was bulky and hard to pack. After a while, I found that very inexpensive rental was available in port. In Cozumel, at Chankanaab, for example, snorkel gear rental is $6.00! Now, all I take is my mask, because, as Keith & rita point out, it's set to my prescription.... I checked with some of the people I have gotten to know, in Key largo, who operate the Snorkel/Dive boats, and they tell me that the equipment is perfectly safe. thre disenfectant that almost all dive operators use kills all of the bacteria and germs. it's very inexpensive, and effective.
