Jason
Looking through my photos from all the cruises I've been on, I found one from our summer cruise back in 2000. During the entire cruise, we were followed by this massive hurricane....I can't remember the name. Because of the necessity for the ship to be kept far away from the hurricane, our itinerary changed daily, with different islands and arrival/departure times being slipped under the cabin doors each night. The hurricane kept changing paths, and everytime it changed it's path, the ship did the same. Towards the end of the cruise, we looped south, the ship called port at San Juan, Puerto Rico, and waited for the hurricane to pass. By the time we left San Juan, we were no longer in front of the hurricane, but now behind it at a safe distance. Though the itinerary changed several times, the cruise was excellent! No rough seas, no bad weather, I don't think it rained even once! I took this photo of the digital map that was attached to the wall on the Promenade deck. The red dots show the major changes in the port itinerary, the green dots were our final leg of the cruise, and as you can see, our route through the Caribbean wasn't one you'll see everyday. So if you're worried about cruising during hurricane season, don't be. The ship will stay far clear of the hurricane or any bad storms. Worse comes to worse, you'll end up stopping at different islands. But nevertheless, you'll have an excellent time regardless!
