Princess good for younger couple?

We are both in our mid 20's. No kids.

We are looking for a 7 day cruise to the caribbean that:

1) had pretty good food

2) is somewhat laid-back

3) not many kids around

4) a reasonable price

I have been doing some research and I like what I am seeing from Princess. The main one that I noticed is their Caribbean Princess.

I read in a few places that the best days on the cruise are the days at sea, so we have been looking at 7 day cruises that stop at 3 ports, rather than 4-5 like many do.

Am I on the right track with all of this, or is this not the right first cruise for us? Are there other cruise lines that would better meet what we are looking for?

Last month we sailed on the Diamond Princess to Mexico and it was wonderful. The food on Princess ships is very good and I would recommend it to a younger couple. We also enjoy days at sea more than port days, and you don't have to get off the ship on days in port if you don't want to. Royal Caribbean is a comparable cruise line - comparable in price, cabin size and layout, food etc. I did like RC entertainment a little better - they had "name" entertainment usually. But Princess entertainment is good. You won't go wrong with either Princess or RC. If you go when school is in session, there won't be many kids. We are planning our next cruise now and trying to decide between Princess or RC (or Celebrity) - but whatever we end up choosing, will be wonderful without a doubt! Good luck making your decision!

I was 30 and my wife was 29 when we went on the Grand Princess. Not a problem at all with age. When you have that many people on a ship, there is such a wide variety of age groups anyway, even on the so called young or old lines. Princess does limit the number of kids, but most of the lines have great kids programs where a lot of them are off in a different part of the ship anyway.

As for whether there is more fun at sea or in port, that really depends on what you like to do. I'm a sea day kind of person myself, as I love the games, the casino, the people watching, and the feeling of the ship actually moving. However there are some very interesting things to see and do in the ports too

Based on your four criteria, Princess would be perfect for you. Their food, and service, is excellent. In my opinion, just a tad below my personal favorite, Celebrity. However, Princess has more variety in their food service than Celebrity.

Priincess can be "laid back," if you play it that way. On the other hand, there are plenty of activities, if you want to participate. Their "Personal Choice" dining really allows you to be laid-back, since you can eat on your own schedule.

I have never run across a "lot" of children on a Princess cruise. There are, usually, a number of families, but the ship is not overrun with kids.

They run lots of specials!

Jeff, I was on the Diamond Princess Easter cruise and we had over 700 kids on board. I didn't run across them much either, I'd just stepped over them. LOL

The key is that on cruises over 7 days, the longer the cruise, the older the passengers. And if makes sense. Retired people have more time available to cruise. 7 days and under will be a younger passenger mix and more children.
