Norwegian Cruise Line has extended it's 1,504-passenger Norwegian Sea's tenure at the Port of Houston through July and plans to replace the ship with a newer and larger vessel in October.

Beginning Oct. 15, the 1,748-passenger Norwegian Dream will depart Saturdays year-round for Roatán, Honduras; Belize City, Belize; and Cozumel and Cancún, Mexico. It will sail from Seattle to Alaska this summer before moving to Galveston.

The Norwegian Dream was launched in 1992, four years after the Sea's debut. It was lengthened in 1998 with an added new midsection. The Dream includes 48 staterooms with balconies (a deficiency on the Sea) and offers multiple dining venues.

The Norwegian Sea is being transferred to Star Cruises, NCL's parent company in Japan. The ship was originally scheduled to terminate sailings from Galveston in May, but NCL has added 11 western Caribbean sailings plus a two-week cruise departing July 22 and transiting the Panama Canal en route to Los Angeles.
