Jason
Port Canaveral attracts new cruise line (American City Business Journals Inc.) The new 116,000-ton Crown Princess will call at Port Canaveral next summer when Princess Cruises begins new service from New York to the Caribbean. It will be the first time the cruise line has ever called at the port. Passengers who embark in New York for the round-trip Caribbean voyages will be able to spend a day in Brevard County and Central Florida. Raymond Sharkey, chairman of the Canaveral Port Authority Commission, says that should have an economic "ripple effect throughout our region with each port of call visit." Port Canaveral will receive five calls from the Crown Princess, which features 900 staterooms and nine-day itineraries to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, including Bermuda, Ocho Rios, and the Turks and Caicos Islands. Port officials, meanwhile, hope the new service ultimately results in more business with Princess Cruises. "It is our hope that once Princess Cruises experiences all that Port Canaveral and the Space Coast has to offer, executives will homeport a vessel here year-round for all of Central Florida to enjoy," says Robert Giangrisostomi, vice president of business development for the port. DaCruzNut
Gee, I'm not so sure that if I was on an exotic cruise, from New York, I'd be all that thrilled with the "port" of Brevard County! OK, the Kennedy Space Center is awesome. But, once you've visited it, there's nothing to do in the area. Of course, if I boarded in Port canaveral, it would be fantastic to have New York as a port!!!!
