Jason
Entergy to take down lines that caused cruise ship complaints NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Entergy Corp. will remove old transmission lines above the Mississippi River that had caused safety complaints from the city's growing cruise line industry, the company said Friday. No firm date was set for the removal, but Entergy said it would rely solely on high-voltage power lines buried under the river. The old lines, which were turned off in 2004, had been a potential navigation hazard into the Port of New Orleans for larger cruise ships that have gone into service over the past few years, especially during periods of high water. In 2003, Carnival Cruise Lines temporarily moved one of its ships to Gulfport, Miss., for several months until Energy raised the lines 23 feet and began working on the buried lines. The cruise ship industry had still complained about the idle lines stretching across the river.
