Good afternoon everyone. I am currently looking at the Carnival Conquest out of New Orleans, for next March. I have read a lot about New Orleans and some of it is kind of scary. Any comments, suggestions or warnings! lol. Anything to help with the planning. Thanks Crazies! TTFN Jennifer

Hi Jen...

I haven't cruised out of New Orleans, but I've been there twice while on motor trips. I wouldn't hesitate to go there again. New Orleans is a facinating city. There's so much history there. The food and drink and jazz is pretty great, too! I would; however, not go alone. Take your hubby with. There are definitely some places that women shouldn't wander into alone.

Rita and I are talking about taking a cruise out of New Orleans. I used to visit the city quite a bit as my father lived there before he passed away. What I remember is if you stay on Bourbon Street it is well patrolled with uniformed and plainclothes officers. NO depend on tourists and keep them protected. Some of the side streets could be a different matter.

Thanks guys - I always take my dh with me when I travel - who else would carry my bags for nothing lol. From what I have been reading it really is a different kind of place. Lots of glitz and glitter hiding the seamy underbelly of corruption ... sounds like a movie trailer lol. We are thinking of the Amerihost Inn on Canal street, because its right on the streetcar line, for two nights prios, then an Extended Stay kind of deal, with kitchen, in the outskirts for a few days afterwards. I would like to drive over the borders to Texas and Mississippi - just to say I've been there lol. We like to rent a car and just go exploring. We really won't need to eat after the cruise - as you all well know - and we will need the exercise to get rid of those five-course-meal and unlimited buffet bacon pounds. We also like to look into historic and mysterious sites. Guess I had better bone up on my voodoo powers. TTFN Jennifer

We have cruised out of N'awlins twice and loved it, and once were on a cruise that did a port call there. We stayed at the Riverside Hilton just down from the Juliett St pier. Didn't feel threatened anytime day or night. We rode the streetcars as far as the beautiful City Park, walked the streets, did Bourbon Street, ate in numerous great restaurants. Even tried Zydaco dancing at Mulate’s, a classic Cajun/Zydaco place across the street from the Juliet Street Terminal. We lunched on Saturday on Acme Oyster House, enjoying oysters on the half shell and the Peacemaker Po’Boy, half oysters and half shrimp. We had seen it on the Food Channel. We also ate at Olivier’s and had oysters at Felix’s on Bourbon Street. We even won a bit on the slots at Harrah’s Casino!
