hazelson
This time we have opted to go with a stateroom guarantee instead of chosing the actually cabin. What do you guys think? Any stories (good or bad) - but I would rather they be good :o) Did anyone get a really good upgrade by chosing this option? Enquiring minds want to know lol. Dan
If you are referring to taking an inside guarantee and ending up with the Royal Suite, this type of upgrade doesn't generally happen. It's not unheard of to be bumped up to a balcony from a window, but these are the exceptions than the rule. We did get a 9 category upgrade on Carnival, and could have gotten even more if we asked, but this was 4 days post-9/11 and the ship was 75% empty. gogetter
Hello, Most of my crusises have been guarantees.....i kinda like not knowing...this way i have to study all the decks.
Shari2
Jen...our last two cruises have both been guarantee balcony cabins. Both times we were on high decks and all the way forward. The last cruise was considered an upgrade, but it was the same type cabin(balcony)and it was actually in a less favored place. We were happy with our cabins, though, and we had great room stewards and no real problems. We did have a little bit more motion on the last cruise when we had rough seas, because we were so high up and all the way forward, but people were sick all over the ship, (really rough seas) so it probably didn't make that much difference where we were. I would book a guarantee again! If the ship isn't full, it is possible that you will get a little better room than you expect.
Mebert
Hi hazelson, I've done guaranteed twice, but only oceanview. I was once upgraded from a porthole to a full oceanview window. My upgrades have been minimal but satisfactory.
jtutak
I think with a guarantee you will either get upgraded in the same class not say inside to outside, or you will get the cabin no one wants because its the only one left.
TheSkipper
Hi Jennifer, You will be OK as long as your expectations are not too high. Most upgrades, if they happen, as simply moving you up a deck or two and you usually end up way aft or way forward. Done it several times and you do save a couple bucks, is it worth it?? Who knows?? On the same sailing Sari2 was talking about, we were snug and happy down low and midships in an outside cabin and did not have a problem with the motion which did cause a lot of sea sickness. Roe's sisters were on the same deck very far forward and both got sick. Would the kind of "upgrade" be worth it?? It's a "roll of the dice", just don't expect too much. Enjoy your cruise.
hazelson
We actually chose the upgrade this time because the package - repostioning cruise and Vegas - was such a good deal. But the cabins alloted to the agent we not that good - high up and forward. So rather than book a not-so-good location - we are going with the roll of the dice on this one with the balcony guarantee. We figure it can only get better, and we will know a couple of weeks ahead of time what the cabin number is. Our Ta says if we really don't like it she may have some lee-way as well to make changes, but we will be happy with whatever we end up with. The whole deal was just oo good to pass up. I also use the patch - which has proven to work well for me - so sea-sickness really isn't an issue - and we had some really rough waters on our first cruise. Lots of sick people bouncing off the bulkheads (that's navy talk for walls lol - being as I was a sea cadet for a few years in my not-so-mispent youth! ) TTFN Jennifer
