I guess we have been lucky, but we have cruised many times and never ever noticed that situation. I have to admit that I've never really looked, but at our tables and the adjacent ones, we've never seen it. I didn't even know that it existed until I started on these boards. But then, naive me always figured that wearing jeans on Country Western night was Ok and I had no idea how many people were so incensed by my lack of taste and how many cruises I had ruined.

However, back to Harry's original question. I think that if you have other plans for the evening, you should inform your table partners and the dining room staff, absolutely no doubt, dining schedules are so tightly set that it would be a dis-service to all. If you have a problem with your dining room partners, that's your choice, but you have a definite obligation to the dining room staff. Just my opinion, and it doesn't matter if you're wearing blue jeans or a tuxedo, being courteous and considerate should be the norm.

Gee, JBond, I would expect jeans for Country Western night. What were you supposed to be wearing instead of jeans???

I would let my tablemates know if I had other plans for dinner in advance because , possibly, they might have met some folks that they'd like to have join them at the table. I know that I'd appreciate it if they did the same. There have been times that we've met some people that we would have liked to have had dinner with and couldn't because our table was full.

If you have a concern about starting on time so you can go to a show etc. try asking everyone that comes the first night how long you are wait. If you get the question out on the table right away then others will know where everyone stands and you should beable to relax the rest of the cruise. We did it the last cruise and the group decided that they would wait 10 min. before they start. No hard feelings if someone came late and they had to wait while some of us were already eating. We were all able to just go with the flow. I hope this helps.
