Our first 2 cruises we used a TA.

Cruise #3 we booked with a online company.

Cruise 4 & 5 we booked directly with cruiseline, online.

We always book separate flights and hotels, online.

Because I want the cheapest deal (I prefer to do my own research), probably why I don't usually like booking with a TA.

Since I am a home agent for a cruise only agency I usually book my own cruises. I have on occasion found a great deal with another agency and will go with that. Regardless of how I find my cruise I almost always book my own air. The exception would be if it were open jaw, then I let the cruise line book it for me.

Open jaw happens when a cruise starts from one point and ends at another. Then your air has to be one way to the start point and one way home from the end point. You can book it on your own but I have usually found that in this case it is usually cheaper to take the cruise line offering.

We usually use an online TA. Which one depends on where I can find the best deal at the time. Always give my primary TA the first shot, but he knows I'll shop it (just to keep him honest, if nothing else). With 44 cruises under our belts we know pretty much which ship we want and when we want to go, so don't really need the "advise" of a local TA.

Being in landlocked Nevada, I've never been very impressed with the cruising knowledge of our local TA's. So, I usually use a TA in Florida or some place closer to the ships and who knows what they are talking about.

We have never booked directly with a cruise line.

We too get our insurance from a third-party vendor. We like an "arms length" relationship with our insurer.
