I have 4 little darlings of my own and we travel quite a bit with them. They have seen Europe, the Caribbean, cruised, etc. They are fairly well behaved (aside from the occasional melt down) because they know that if they act up - it will be the last vacation for a long, long time!

It does get very difficult to make them behave when you have other kids running around out of control! We have also seen parents who need help in the social department! We were recently on the Disney Cruise and we had adults shoving my kids out of the way so they could be in line first to see Snow White with there 6 month old! Crazy!

I really hope that the time comes when society becomes less of a me, me, me way of thinking and we can be curteous to each other again!

My girls are 13, 12, 9, & 6. And yes the occasional time they do get a paddle!

On our last vacation on the Disney Wonder our 6 year old had a major melt down - and I mean major! She was crying and screaming because she missed the Pirate Party - well, she was picked up and taken to our room and was not allowed out for the rest of the evening. So while her sisters went up and enjoyed ice cream and cookies as the ship sailed from Nassau - she was stuck in the stateroom!

Not much fun for Mom and Dad, but wow was she very well behaved for the remainder of our vacation!

chasbos, I applaud you for your actions. I'm sure your daughter definitely learned a lesson, and one that she won't soon forget. You sacrificed your evening to ensure better behavior for , not only you, but everyone else on the ship. Being a parent of two, I always feel that the punishment should fit the crime and you did exactly that. Too many parents just let things slide and that's why some kids' behavior eventually gets out of control.alt text

Tell me about it. We still have home with us our 13 year old daughter who is extremely challenging. When we need to , we take the privileges away- computer, talking on the phone, seeing friends. We have told her time and time again that there is a difference between necessities and privileges and when she doesn't behave , she should expect only the necessities. Unfortunately, she's one of those kids that has to repeat the same mistakes over and over, but eventually she does get the idea. In fact, last year, I didn't allow her to go on the 6th grade end of the year trip which was very expensive, because her grades were awful so I felt she did nothing to earn the trip.I had even warned her weeks before the trip that she had better do her work or she wouldn't go. So , she had plenty of time to rectify the situation. It was a very tough day for DD but that was a lesson she didn't forget and her grades were much better this past year. Would you believe I received phones calls from a couple of her teachers to thank me for taking a stand and they said they wished other parents would do the same.

That right That's right.. Although I have no children, I do remember the lessons I learned and the attitude that I had during different stages of growth. I thank my god that My parents had the ability to raise children.!

So to all you parents that are "doing their job" Thank you
