cruisinmama
well ..we are going to actually tell them the opposite sort of... That they should take just as much precaution that they would do anywhere else. I think many parents think that Cruise ships are very safe and let the kids roam and do what they want... We don't think they are any safer than anywhere else... we have pretty young ladies and we will make sure we have a way to contact them ..and if they are upset by me calling to check on them, they will have a choice either that or I follow them around.... and no I am not that cool...lol.. I will say I have smart kids, BUT my ydd isn't as observent as we would like her to be...and her sister hates having to watch her..lol..typical sister love So we will work something out..again if its walkie talkies than we will make sure we don't disturb others with them.. Thanks
GottaCruz
I agree with you, cruisinmama. Every once in a while, you do hear about things happening on cruise ships. I also feel that there's a first time for everything- you never know. When it comes to my kids, I just feel I can't be too careful. Having her check in with us every couple of hours or so works great for us since I know that if I gave her a walkie talkie, I'd be stressed just worrying about her losing it. We also feel that she's learning a good lesson- that by being responsible and showing up when she should, she gets the privilege of some freedom and if she doesn't there are consequences to pay- it works great with her. Now all this might not be necessary with other kids- every kid is so different. Just do what you feel is right for yours and whatever will make you the most comfortable and don't worry about anyone or anything else. Just my opinion.
cruisinmama
Yeah its a hard one.. give them space and get them to check in...but mine have never Cruised b/4..and I will say I got lost on our last cruise..I know sad isn't it..lol...I got turned around..lol..and spent more time tring to get back to where I needed too.. and didn't even get to where I wanted..lol.. I'd like them to join one of the Clubs as I hear thats a great way for them to meet other kids...and they should go the first night for sure... Safe than sorry is my motto...But I do agree the walkie talkie could end up being put down never to be seen again...lol..and yes the fighting can occur between them and 1 taking off leaving the other.. So really want a way to get a hold of them..Just incase..sort of thing.. So will hope the phones will be ok, as they are small and can be in their pockets..and we have the phones already... If not then we will get the walkie talkie and have them check in and if they don't we will then use them..as we all know kids loose track of time.. But I do thank everyone for your thoughts.. Its good to hear other points of views.. Thanks
mookster
Hi- All this talk about walkie talkies are they free from the ship? Or should I buy a set before we leave,or do I just throw the walkie talkie overboard turn to my wife and say "Let's Have Fun" (just kidding)
hamster92256
Welcome Mookster - As far as I know you buy the inexpensive walkie talkies just about anywhere for less than $20 each, seeing how you don't need the range. But if it's just you and the wife, I would just let her yell until you heard her
