I'm getting worried about the cruise that I am going on next Sunday!! It looks like Emily is heading right for Cozumel. I hope Emily doesn't do to much damage. How do Carnival cruise lines handle this kind of situation? I guess they will cruise elsewhere if the place is hit bad? I just don't know! This is my first cruise ever and now I'm totally scared!!

Could anyone help to ease my mind or give me some insight if this has ever happened to them?

Thanks

Carol, sunshineforblue

Hi Sunshine!

I can imagine, First let me congratulation you on your first cruise. Never fear. Carnival like all Cruise lines have up to the minute equipment So the Navigation of the ship is fairly easy, The ability to stay clear of inclement weather and to see up coming storms and stay out of range of turbulent weather is Navigation 101 in this day of technology.

So don’t worry, just look at it like this …when you are on a cruise you never know, so enjoy!

Carnival will stay clear of any bad weather. If Cozumel sustains heavy damage your itinerary will be changed. All of the seasoned cruisers soon learn that missed or changed ports happen. I always go on a cruise to enjoy the ship and never book just to visit a certain port. Good luck relax and enjoy yourself.

If your itinerary is changed, just remember that it really isn't the Carnival's fault. If you read most of the boards, it's amazing how often people blame bad weather on the Cruise Lines. We were diverted on one of our cruises, and the worst thing that happened ws that the shops only had tee shirts and post cards for the islands we were supposed to go to. No matter where you go, you'll still have a great cruise.

Please don't worry, sunshineforblue. You'll be just fine. Carnival knows just what to do and their top priority is the safety of their passengers. Just decide to enjoy the anticipation of your 1st cruise. Even if the ports are changed, just decide you will enjoy yourself and then you will.

Carnival nor any of it's Captain's will put a ship in danger just to make a port of call. If Cozumel is still closed because of damage from Emily, you will either get another day at sea or an alternate port in it's place. Your itinerary may be changed in order to make an alternate port. And even if the weather is nice, the port at Cozumel may still be closed because of damage.......Emily is a category 4 hurricane - same strength that Ivan was when it hit Grand Cayman last year and it took months for Grand Cayman to recover enough to open up to cruise ships and tourists again.

Since the storm is due the first part of the week you should know whether the ports on your itinerary are changed or not before you leave.

Don't worry as everyone has said, you'll still have fun no matter where you go. Enjoy!
