I think we've been pretty lucky. We've had some really good tablemates along the way...three different times we've kept in touch with tablemates and even visited with a few ladies who live in Massachusetts. Our kids were penpals with kids they met on our Alaska cruise.

However, we have a next door neighbor who has to be a cruiser from H*E*Double Hockey Sticks! And HE admits it...so does his wife.

Numerous times they've asked us to join them on a cruise and we've so far ESCAPED! But his recounting of their last cruise nailed it for us. We'll NEVER go cruising with them.

They were on a Mediterranean cruise on Oceania a few weeks ago. 2 or 3 week cruise (can't remember), so it was an expensive cruise. They were at dinner one night and he asked the waiter to bring one of each entree, because he wanted to try them all. The waiter said he'd have to ask his manager if he could bring them all at once...I guess their policy is to bring one at a time. Bring a meal, the diner has it, and then asks for another. Well, our neighbor went balistic and pounded his fists on the table and made a scene about how much he paid for the trip, yada, yada, yada. His wife said she felt like she wanted to crawl under the table.

He would be the kind of tablemate I'd be happy to forget. Thing is, we love him as a neighbor...he's really a great guy, but sometimes he's just way over the top.

We were lucky on ours, the people were nice... at the end one couple they gave us magazines for their religion.. We accepted politely and we have emailed a few time with each couple but haven't heard from them the last time we emailed them..

I wonder what people think of us???lol..

We've never had forgettable tablemates, we did have a couple that kept trying to impress us, and anybody who would listen, by constantly talking about everything they owned and all the places they visited, etc. Thet where PITA's, but having other couples at the table made them almost bearable. We all laughed about it when they weren't around.

Cheryl, we are hoping one day to share a table with you and Wayne!

The only one that we really didn't enjoy sitting with wasn't really part of our group. When we went to the dinning room for lunches, you could sit anywhere you wanted to and with any one you wanted to. We happen to sit at a table with some very nice people and along came this TA and spent the whole lunch period telling us all the good deals she got people, how she was able to get free cabins because she books so many for each cruise, etc., etc., etc. And she never missed a bite of her food in the process. She had a few of the people she had booked this particular cruise for (and got her free cabin) and continued to ask them, "Didn't I get you a great deal?" in between bragging about all the great deals. It was a buffet so we got our food and sat somewhere else. We could still hear her and she was still talking when we left the restaurant.

As far as tablemates go, we've always been lucky and had a great time with the people we've sat with. This time, I requested a table for two because it's such a special cruise but we may ask to change to a bigger one once we board.

For the most part I can't complain about our tablemates. We have met some really nice people and have maintained contact with a number of them. We generally ask for a table of six or eight so that we aren't stuck having to talk to each other.

Our worst tablemates were on one cruise where we had a table of six. Two were elderly Polish holocaust survivors and were difficult to understand, and the husband of the other couple was in the early stages of dimensia, and told me the same stories every night. She was fine.

In retrospect we should have changed tables, but it was a nice table by the back window in the Statendam with a great view. We survived. I wonder what they thought of us twenty or thirty years their juniors (and we're not kids).

We've always had pleasant tablemates.

On our very first cruise, we were seated with another family of four. We all got along great- even the kids. We had a great time in the dining room with them. We were just very disappointed when none of them showed up the last night of the 7 day cruise. The waiter hadn't seen them or heard from them. The night before they had even said they wanted to exchange phone numbers and stay in touch. Oh well......................

Another cruise, we were seated with a family of 5. They were great people and ended up becoming clients of Wayne, who is a stockbroker. We would love that, Keith and Rita. And go dancing together. :cheesy:

Don't even remember our table mates - probably because we haven't had any - first cruise we sat alone all week at our table for four - the next one we sat all alone at our table for six. This time I'm packing deodorant , mouthwash and duct tape (for dh's mouth) :o)
