Formal Night Attire

I love getting dressed up, and, when I'm on Celebrity, or Princess, or the like, I take both of my tuxes! However, when I'm on Carnival, I usually just take a change of underwear and claen jeans....

When we used to do the 7 nighters, I looked forward to dressing up on formal nights, after lying around in a bathing suit all day. Besides, it gave me a good excuse to buy some great dresses. I would have loved to wear the same ones on every cruise but, unfortunately, my size seems to change with the season. Hubby has worn his tuxedo . HOwever, now that we have been doing the 3 day cruises for the last couple of years, we don't dress up as much on formal night. On the 3 day Fascination cruise that we're always going on, formal night is on the night you're in port so not many people are around and if they are, they're dressed very casually .

By the way, LifeisCruising, it's great to see you posting again.

Before DH retired we attended 2 or 3 formal affairs every year. With quite a few gowns and DH having hiis own tux, we look forward to formal night on the ship and enjoy dressing up for a change. Otherwise the formal clothes would be attracting moths in the closet.

I like formal night and dressing up for dinner. My last two cruises were on the Infinity on two-week cruises which are more dressy, so we had three formal nights. One night I wore a long blue gown with some sparkles, another night, I wore a long black skirt with a light- velvet top with sheer sleeves, and another night, which was only one week from Christmas, I wore a long,light-velvet gown with a matching jacket that was a burgandy plumish color with some sparkles. Nice for Christmas time.

I read somewhere that sparkles are out, but I see women everywhere wearing them. When else do we get the chance to dress up like this.

The cruise before on our Panama Canal cruise, I wore a long- silver-grey sparkly gown on one night and black on another night, and we missed the third night since the ship broke down.

My DH always wears a nice, dark suit with tie. He has considered a tux, but still hasn't worn one.

Formal with glitz and glamour! I think that the way you dress and present yourself are a very personal expression of who you are and how you feel about yourself. DH and I dress to please ourselves. I also think everyone should cruise with lines they are comfortable with. Whether you have money or class are not the issue. (I know some pretty classy people who have in my opinion have no taste in clothing or they just don't care about it)

DH and I probably overdress by some standards. We are not wealthy by any means but we enjoy dressing up and we have a lot of formal clothing. DH is a Shriner and we attend many formals with the same people so I have accumulated a lot of gowns and he has 3 different tuxedos and 2 white dinner jackets. We are self employed and work from home so dressing up is something I look forward to. DH does not consider a tux any different than putting on a suit. For nights that are not formal we still dress up with what we feel is appropriate for an upscale restaurant.

I really don't care how others choose to dress but if it came down to it I would vote to enforce dress codes.

^..^

Hey Laney!!

Bravo, IMHO you make excellent points.

I love to play dress up, and since retirement I dont get to dress in suits as much as I previously did, so when I do get the chance to "put a shine on" I really get into it.

Thanks for a great post

We always dress formally, not only for dinner, but the whole evening. It's one of the main reasons we cruise. I have the regular black tux and a white dinner jacket. I always wear boots with my tux, black eelskin, western style dress boots.

Moneypenny has a large choice of evening gowns, so she tries to spread them out a little. She hasn't bought any new ones this year, but there's still plenty of time.

Gogetter is correct, I think the people on this board are more interested in who you are rather than what you wear. On another board, he would be so flamed by now that he would look like overcooked barbeque.

Good to see you back Chris. How are the daughters? Graduated yet?

Chris, that pretty much describes us, too. I have four formal gowns (two of which began life as bridesmaid dresses, lol). I rotate them, except for the one time we had four formal nights!

I try to change them out with different pieces of jewelry or a different hairstyle.
