Jason
I remember someone saying that there's a minimum age for cruising without your parents...for some reason, the number 25 sticks out in my mind. Is this minimum cruising age different for each cruise line? I'd really like to go on a cruise ( particularly Carnival )with some friends, so I kinda need to find out about this. Dan
http://www.carnival.com/CMS/FAQs/Age_Policy.aspx How old do you have to be to travel alone? Guests are required to be 21 years old (on embarkation day) to travel. Guests under the age of 21 must be accompanied in the same stateroom by a parent or guardian 25 or older. The exceptions Carnival will make to this policy are: Married minor couple - The booking must be documented that the couple is married. The couple must have proof of marriage at embarkation or they will be denied boarding without the benefit of a refund. Domestic Partners/Same-Sex Union minor couple - The booking must be documented that the couple are legal Domestic Partners/Same-Sex Union. The couple must have legal proof of partnership/union at embarkation or they will be denied boarding without the benefit of a refund. Guest ages will be verified at embarkation. Guests not conforming to this policy will be denied boarding and assessed a 100% cancellation penalty. NO exceptions will be made at embarkation. The Group policy is slightly different because of stricter group terms and conditions including mandatory chaperones, damage deposits and other considerations. Royal Caribbean is a little more lax on this, but not by much. Can unaccompanied minors cruise? Effective July 1, 2005 guests under the age of 21 must be booked in a stateroom with an adult who is 21 years or older. A parent or legal guardian must accompany guests under the age of 18 and must be booked in the same or adjacent stateroom. Acceptable proof will be required. These restrictions may be waived at our discretion where applicable. Please note: An individual's age on the date of sailing determines his or her status for the entire cruise vacation. Royal Caribbean International does not accept bookings for student groups. Please consult a travel agent for Royal Caribbean's group policies. Suzila
When my oldest son was 18 and just graduated from high school we sent he and his friend on a 5 day Baja cruise as their graduation gift. The next year, when my youngest graduated high school hubby and I had to go with them because the rules had changed. We heard the reason was that the cruise lines were finding that the kids who were on cruises by themselves were trashing the place, and wouldn't leave tips for anyone. We specifically gave our kids sealed envelopes with tip money in them, and the rule that this money was to be given to the steward, the waiter, the assistant, etc...not used for anything else. My son, who had the sealed envelopes, called home and said he wanted to leave the steward more tip money because the guy was folding up their underwear and putting it back in their suitcase every morning...the stuff they had left wadded up in a ball on the floor! My son thought the guy was great...except he couldn't tell which underwear was dirty and which was clean! LOL! Sue
