Shari2
Hi Ann... The advantage in flying to Hawaii is that you could have more time there for the sights. You could book with NCL and cruise the islands, and NCL stays overnight at least one night on either Mau or Kaui. With that extra time, you can do a nice luau or spend the evening at the Polynesian Cultural center or something that you might not have enough time for otherwise. I think if it were your first time to Hawaii, I might say to fly there at least one way and stay a day or two before, because the time we had in port on our cruise from San Diego was limited. We had been there before also, so we felt that we would have enough time in ports, but when we got there, I really wished I had more time to spend. If you are going for a great shipboard experience, too, then I would really recommend Celebrity for good food, service and entertainment. Their ships never seem crowded either. As Dan says, you could give Princess a try, or Holland America does a round trip to Hawaii. It was more expensive than our trip on Celebrity, but now Celebrity has raised their price a bit since these round trips have become so popular. Good Luck with whatever you decide! Dan
If you were to a one way cruise out of Vancouver, you might be able to arrange round trip air on Westjet or Air Canada to Vanouver, and a one way on Harmony from Hawaii to Vancouver on the way home. You'd just have to time it out so that you can get from your Harmony flight to your Westjet flight in Vancouver on the way home. I just did a sample booking on Air Canada using their multi-city tool, and it came out to about $1200 per person. Now, this was using the dates for this year's cruise, so being so late, there aren't any cheap seats left. Booking far in advance is neccesary from Honolulu to Vancouver, since this flight is actually a Sydney Australia-Vancouver flight that picks up passengers in Hawaii. If you were to book as far in advance as possible, you'd get cheaper air than that.
JoeyandDavid
Sounds like Dan's way is at least worth a hard look.

JohnG
NCL America now has two ships, Pride of Aloha and Pride of America, and soon Pride of Hawaii, sailing the Honolulu or Maui round trip 7 night cruises. These cruises stay over night in Maui and Kauai. Because they have US crews, they do not need to visit a foreign country, so they do not have to do the long run to Fanning Island, or the long at sea runs from the west coast and back. That provides 100 hours in port in Hawaiian ports, compared to an average of 45 hours, maximum, for other lines. Combined with a pre or post stay of a day or two in Honolulu, it gives you adequate time to see the islands even if it is your first tour. They do not have casinos aboard, which are prohibited in Hawaii. But, with all that time in port, who cares.

JohnG
Thanks. I was in Alaska for a week on the Star and trying to get my work caught up, so I've been busy and not able to get to the boards till today.
