DaCruzNut
I've never done a Christmas cruise. They usually sell out and are very crowded! Lines for embarkation, buffets, going ashore, etc;etc; I like to sail one or two weeks before Christmas. The ships are almost empty, what with people getting ready for the holidays. The ships are all decked out for Christmas, with ribbons and decorations everywhere, and the passengers in a holiday mood. It's sort of all the benefits of a Christmas cruise without the hassle.... Shari2
I do have to agree with some of the posters here. While my last cruise started on December 4th...it lasted until December 20th. I did get home for Christmas, and I did my shopping and all before I left, and I put my tree up early, and the cruise and vacation was wonderful, but, I did still miss the excitement of being home and getting ready for the holidays. I had to do everything really early and in a rush. I have also heard that the actual Christmas cruises and New Year's cruises are very crowded. cruisinmama
Yes I have to agree the crowds will be scary.. I picked Christmas as it is just us....and the kids are out of school then..harder to take them out they just miss way too much stuff... I have looked at cabins for a few Cruises and already having trouble even getting cabins on the same deck.. BUT I had another brain storm... ..my dh usually cringes when he's hears that..lol..We have always talked about going to New York and heck it doesn't matter to us whether its -30 here or somewhere else..so I think we might plan on being in New York for Christmas....I'd LOVE to see a Broadway show..OMG That would be awesome.. So I have time to think about it... Thanks for all your thoughts
schatje
Unless we were traveling with our family it would not be much fun for us. The Holidays are still for the children in our family and I would miss not seeing them enjoy themselves. Maybe when everyone is old enough ...teenage and above we will think about doing a family vacation on a cruise.
sailingrose
We have traveled Christmas 5 times. 4 on RCI and one on HAL. We love it! I get to see all the little ones faces when they see Santa and I don't have to cook the traditional dinners our family has. My parents also come with us as they enjoy the festivities too. Our kids are older so we do very little shopping, as they prefer gift cards. I usually decorate our cabin door, bring a small decorated and lit tree from home and our stockings to hang in the cabin. Christmas morning after Santa arrives and we've seen lots of happy kids with their gifts from Santa the 6 of us return to our room and open gifts and have room service. We only bring small gifts (like gift cards, CD's, etc.) Any bigger items are left home for after the trip. We enjoy our egg nog, caroling, Christmas show and Christmas dinner with no muss and no fuss. Christmas Eve is still my favorite at sea as it just seems more peaceful on the open decks and the sky and seas seem very content. Magic at sea! Yes, its not for everyone. It costs more and has lots of kids aboard but we enjoy it anyway. I guess one day when we have grandchildren we'll feel differently but for now this works great. My parents get to spend time with our busy kids (they are the youngest grandchildren), we get to spend more time with my parents and exta time with the busy college students too. It doesn't work for everyone but it works for us. Happy Sailing!
TheSkipper
We have been on a couple of Christmas cruises out of L.A. over the years. Both were with RCI and were very enjoyable. Lots of decorations, caroling, and merry making. Santa even made an appearance. We were also on the Infinity with Shari2 last year, and she is correct the decorations were outstanding! Holiday cruises still appear to be a little pricier than those right before or right after.
