We don't necessarily pack 1/2 and 1/2 but we do a form of it. We put one set of daytime clothes, one set of evening clothes, a bathing suit and an extra t-shirt in each others bag. Just enough incase something happens. We also spread some of our daughters clothes in our suitcases too.

For the three of us, we usually have one large suitcase and three smaller ones. We check all but one of the smaller suitcases.

Each bag is packed in thirds -- in other words, no one has any claim to one bag. The one we carry on will contain the clothing that would be hard to replace during the cruise, such as my son's suit. For the others, I put outfits together, and distribute them among the bags.

  I don't know about anyone else, but there is no 1/2 & 1/2 in our packing. More like 3/4 &1/4. I need 1 suitcase, my dw who I LOVE needs at least 2. If she runs out of room she squeezes more into mine. It's all good though because the end result is we go on a cruise.
