JoeyandDavid
I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on the ease or difficulty in commuting from the pier in Venice to the Airport.
Mebert
JoeyandDavid, When I was in Europe this summer, Civitavecchia, I had made arrangements with the cruise line for transfers from the port to the airport. It shuttle effort was seamless. I'm sure it would be the same for Venice. Just make arrangements with the cruise line.
jbond
Both times that we have visited Venice we have docked at the commercial port. There are taxi stands right at the dock. You should have no problem getting transportation to the airport. However, I agree with Mebert and would suggest that a ship's transfer would be a good idea. The luggage transfers were effortless. If you go it alone, luggage can be a hassle. European taxis are not that big, in fact quite small, and they charge you for luggage by the piece. I hope that you are spending some time in Venice. It's the most awesome city to visit. We were there in October and it's just incredible. The food, the views, the sail in and out are the best of any cruise we've ever been on. I'd go back in a heartbeat. We've just set up our Christmas Dinner table, using the tablecloth that we bought in Burano. We always have a nice setting, but this year it's extra special. TheSkipper
Hi Guys, In Venice you will need to use a Water Taxi to get to the airport. A van will sink!. When we disembarked we were picked up by a boat from our hotel. When we left town the hotel arranged for a pickup by a Water Taxi from their dock. Worked well, but it was expensive, can't remember exactly how much, but I remember being shocked when the hotel desk told me the fare. When you arrive at airport you will be met by porters who will tell you what they charge to handle your bags. Tipping is NOT an option. Kind of reminded me of a Longshoreman Union setup! Hope this helps. Roe just came in and said she remembers the Water Taxi was in the $60 - $70 range, and that was five years ago.
JoeyandDavid
Thanks guys you had basically confirmed my earlier findings.. I just wondered if taxis were availible at the pier 24hrs day when ships are in... are taxis metered or do you negotiate the price. The problem is on our return flight, it maybe a situation where we leave before Celebritys transfer option begins.
jbond
I disagree, if you are going from the cruise ship dock to the airport or vice versa. The cruise ship dock is in a busy port area, next to the railway staion and they don't use water taxis to get the trains into the station. If you are going from the ship to a hotel or from a hotel to the airport, then you will need a water taxi. Mebert
Hi JoeyandDavid, I still think the cruise line has an interest in making the transfrer from the pier to the airport very easy for you. Water taxi's are very, very expensive.
