Suzila
I agree with you on that Karen, in the case of kids travelling. We, unfortunately, got stuck on the same floor of a hotel with a class of kids on our visit to Washington DC. Sheesh...I can't begin to tell you what was going on in the hallways at 3:00am. I don't know what floor they put the teachers/chaperones, but they sure weren't on the floor with us. We had to be moved to another floor in the middle of the night, and even then, the kids were making phone calls to everyone in the hotel. What a vacation that was....NOT. But, the honeymoon couple were not kids. We sent my own son and his wife on a cruise for their honeymoon, and they came back saying it was perfect...they stayed to themselves most of the time, did meet some nice people, but, of course I wasn't with them, it doesn't sound like they got into any fights or got so drunk they didn't know what they were doing. I also feel for the families of the people missing, I just don't understand why a vacation has to include drinking into oblivion, to the point where you'd pass out, etc. It all sounds so strange. Why would anyone target the honeymoon couple? Why did he get into a fight? Why was she passed out...who would have drugged her, and why? So many questions. jsme
It was actually a girl from Duplin that went missing. I think this is dreadful. It is a parents nightmare.
cruisinmama
Here's a few updates: http://www.irishexaminer.com/pport/web/ire...TbBP-2fa91M.asp I just got off that cruise today (1/8/06) There were two versions of what happened floating around the ship. The news had it wrong when it says that the girl was on the top deck. She actually felt off from her balcony on the 8th floor. Around 8:00 AM the cruise director informed us via PA that for the last several hours, the cruise had been traveling in circles searching for a passenger who had felt off the ship. My uncle, who was traveling with us, told me that at 2:00 AM they had shut down all the music channels on the TV. Around 1:00 PM again they informed us that the Mexican coast guard would continue with the search and the ship would continue to Cozumel. We arrived at Cozumel at 3:30 PM (it was scheduled at 8:00 AM) Yesterday (Saturday), the captain asked for a minute of silence in memory of the tragic event and the whole ship went quiet. Very sad. Everyone was in shock when we learned that it was a teenager. The parents were moved downstairs to another cabin across to were I was staying. I did not see them, or spoke with them, but the cabin steward told me about them. The captain decided to cancel Gran Cayman as port of call and we stayed the next day also in Cozumel. I couldn't even fathem what that family is going through...so very sad!!!!

DaCruzNut
It's all very sad and I can't imagine how the parents must feel. Still, who lets a 15-year-old get so drunk that this kind of thing can happen?
kruz
I got this from a very reliable source.... A 15 year old female passenger from Ireland was reported missing at 2AM as the ship was making its way toward Cozumel. An onboard search and search of surrounding waters were not fruitful. From a passenger: The young girl was extremely drunk. We (and others around us) called security many times because of the noise…they even came up at least 3 times to her room. She was partying with other kids in her family in that room. She jumped overboard. We know this because ser sister came screaming down the hall at 3am (Mexican local timeâ€â€GMT-6) “My sister jumped overboard! Help!†I thought it was more drunken antics until security got there and she started talking with them. My two-door-down neighbor heard her tell security that she got in a fight with her boyfriend earlier and also that the bar cut her off. KeithnRita
We were in Cozumel on Friday Jan 06 with the Costa and three other ships. The seas were very rough the night before and even rougher on our arrival. We were surprised tenders were being used. Probably had something to do with Cozumel's suffering economy. After Rita saw the tenders bouncing around she said no way, so we stayed aboard. We heard about the incident from others who went ashore. We heard at least five versions of the story--all different. Later that evening our ship encountered 15-20 swells and many passengers were sick, including Rita.
jbond
That's a very interesting website. I wonder how comprehensive it is? The stories about the young Irish girl are very disturbing. How could she get so much alcohol? I can't believe that bartenders would serve her so much and was she charging it on a SeaPass type card? There's a lot more to come to the surface on this one.
