Joanandjoe
The fact that booze was involved with the Irish girl, as well as the Smiths, doesn't make either situation less tragic, but it does point out the need for some decorum, even on vacation. In the case of the girl, it also points out there need to watch our kids on cruises. Unfortunately, some 15 year olds do look old enough to drink, and get served at bars (or by their parents). A drunk youngster is scary indeed! Yes, we're sympathetic to the girl's family; but, sadly, dangerous behaviour sometimes leads to tragic results. GottaCruz
What a horror! And I'm always accused of being over protective. I didn't allow and still don't allow my kids to do school trips that involve overnights. Don't want mine to be in the situation Suzila described , without chaperones, wreaking havoc or being tempted to by the other kids. Peole are shocked when they find out DD has to check in with me every couple of hours on a ship, regardless of what she's doing. She knows that if she doesn't , she sits with us for the rest of the cruise. Of course, drinking is a whole different ballgame. Drinking at 15? Where were those parents? I think that some folks are glad to not be bothered with their kids during a cruise. However, nobody deserves to go through that kind of horror., no matter what kind of parent they are. My prayers go out to them.
