SKAOLboy
yeah, i'll have to do that also, thanks for the reminder! im not even sure what kind of rum im looking for when i go there, aslong as it's made on the islands. Bacardi is too mass marketed for me... i'd like some local stuff. Me? im usually a beer drinker or a nice scotch on the rocks, or the occasional gin n tonic, now that makes me sound older then i really am! lol
eagleforest
I'll have to research what is available on the islands. If you like straw there is a big straw market. But barder it down to the lowest price
SKAOLboy
im sure my girl friend will like the straw market, and then explore alittle further to find some small shops. After all she is one of those art types, and im sure im gonna need a second suit case for stuff she might buy lol. well if it's anything like dealing with a pesky car dealer, i think i can handle it... offer a price then, when it's not met walk away... and they should give/ or some somewhere near the price im looking for. Im told this works well in the bahamas, but of course, you have to do it with class and not be rude about it. (but my bet is car dealers are worse :cheesy: )
eagleforest
Note: A little trick they do in the Bahama's.... Lady try on this bracelet see what it looks like. Oh that looks good no I can not take back That be $5 for my troubles
eagleforest
The straw market not only has straw everything. But wood everything T shirts that you can see through from front to back for $2 each.. Just dont wash them. Or buy them and give them as gifts to co-workers. Also shells of every type. It is a nice stop. To browse. You will have fun if you like to buy cars for cheap
SKAOLboy
lol it actually works at dealerships... specially the super huge ones, well maybe just the ones in WNY! i didn't know the little thing with the try this on bit, good warning. specially because she has been to a few arts shows and likes to try stuff on. i work in HVAC (heating & A/C) so i don't think there will be too many things my co workers would like.... unless i can get a cheap set of craftsmens wrenchs, or liquer! eagleforest
Now see in Michigan when I go to buy a vehicle. Since my father worked at GM I get the DISCOUNT. I can either get what used to be Option 1 or Option 2. Option 1 is two phased. A certain percentage off the base price. And then an additional percentage off every option. When I had my one PU built it was $23,000 but after the Option 1 I paid like $15,000 plus I got the rebate. But now on my last truck I bought off the lot so I get a little lower percentages off plus rebates and I was going to get a truck from another dealership. And my dealership would have traded one of there for the one I was looking at. But in the end I found my truck hiding in a corner of there lot. And then they gave more off since I bought it straight from them. In the end when you use the GM discount you get it a heck of a lot lower than the sticker price. And the dealer makes a flat rate on the vehicle versus a chunk. Now if your gf likes jewelry. I went to Diamond International and walked out the door like 5 times and hollered my wifes name and said lets go. Lets go now. Forget it we can get it another time. I'm waiting lets get going. I'm thirsty. Lets get going. Before you knew it I had a beer in hand and the prices dropped every time I walked out that door. The way I look at it. They will find somebody that is willing to pay sticker price or one step down. Not me I want your manager in my face giving me the absolute lowest price just above wholesale. But your gf has to be really interested. And a few times walk out the door with you. I have bought numerous times from DI and everytime I do the same thing. In fact in Cozumel I had a coupon for $50 off any item over $350. I was buying a emerald bracelet for my dad for my mom's birthday. The price listed was like $800. I had just bought a necklace for the wife and then I spotted the bracelet. I was at the door numerous times. The security guard tried to stop me and send me back to the manager. Finally the manager I remember she had short blonde hair. She was from the states. She said my best price is $310 but you can't use the coupon OH ARE YOU SURE? Well why would I want to use the coupon as I have dropped the price as far as I did. I acted a little silly but hey it did work. My dad had that piece appraised and the Jewler said it was worth like $690. So if I would have paid anything above 690 I would have been the sucker. No matter where you go play the game. If they want the sale they will work with you. If not there pockets will be emptier.
SKAOLboy
geez, i wish that worked here. im still recouping from buying an engagment ring, i went a little overboard. went to the jewler (not a huge chain store) to see what i can do, since they got those computer programs and the goldsmiths on hand. i designed one of the coolest rings ever and i knew my girl would go nuts (when i finally do give it to her) i has dual toned gold... two 8mm aqua marines (she's friggin' nuts about aquamarine.... also her birthstone)on each flank of the ring and in the middle i got a princess cut, 1 crt dimond, only thing i compromised on was the clarity, which i decided to go one step below flawless. 2 mths later i finally got it back and i was blown away, and since the sides are mainly open, you never notice the clearity issue, unless you take a very hard look with one of those jewler eye peices. but the total damage for a custom ring was around 4K which from what i heard isn't to bad... and the guy even gave me 12mths no intrest....and a whole bunch of goodies ( did i mention they'll serve you beer while you do this?) overall a good experiance, but i think overall it contributed to my fading hairline ( and im only 23) lol well i took advantage of the GM discount this summer to pick of a chevy colorado, and i like it way better then the F-150 i had. Funny thing is i got a work truck i drive home and to work, so atleast thats gonna be good when i trade it in for something else. and another thing i like about the colorado is the engine... 5 cycle and the fact the gm engine plant here makes the engines for it! eagleforest
I got a good ole GMC Sierra 4x4 PU full size with a 5.8 ... And of course I have remote start. Whenever I use it people say do you know how much gas is? Yep sure do but I hate scrapping my windows. I have always owned Pick ups. And they have always been either Chevy's or GMC's. Same truck just different incentives. Actually GMC puts together a better package deal. Chevy makes you buy everything seperate. My average mpg on a tank is like 12 mpg. But thats why my wife drives that nice PT cruiser. I think your GF will love her Ring. Just remember that on the islands they will run down the street to find you the right piece of jewelry
SKAOLboy
yeah im gonna have to agree with you on the whole GMC thing, my work truck is a seirra, and for a company truck it's pretty loaded (i.e heated seats!) pretty nice when your outside working on a unit for 8hrs in negative degree weather. While it eats gas, i don't care the company pays for the gas, god bless the coperate credit card. On the other hand the colorado isn't to bad, 5 cycle gives it enough power, then crusing it cuts off the extra cylinder. i got a crew cab, but i rarely use it, well it makes a great place to throw my work clothes and spare parts. my girlfriend has a saturn VUE, which is pretty good.... for the ugly beast i think it is. Ironically for a GM car it has a honda 4 cyl in it- which is good because she can atleast get 100,000 miles plus on it. pluse it's all plastic so she doesn't have to worry about it rusting out lol. Im thinking of getting her into a GMC Envoy, and it comes with some real nice features. let's hope she likes the ring, it's appraised at 5k for the first 4 years. wow, run down the street...i guess that could be a good or a bad thing. im a big scary looking guy, i wouldn't be suprised they run the other way when they see my mug.... can't say it hasn't happend before lol and working in the service end of this business, atleast i know how to scare people by facial expressions... i know of one customer who refuses me to work at his business because he was scared of me, or it could be i estimated the work that needed to be done on his business was over 19k. But like anything you have, if you don't take care of it (just like a car) you'll end up paying more in the long run.
