Royal Caribbean plans Liberty voyages

Royal Caribbean has disclosed the name of its second Freedom-class ship and plans to homeport the vessel in Miami.

The Miami-based cruise line said the Liberty of the Seas reflects the same freedom of choice and experiences as her similarly titled sister ship, Freedom of the Seas, which is to enter service in June.

Currently under construction at Aker Finnyards in Turku, Finland, Liberty of the Seas is to closely mirror her prototype, with amenities including a surfing simulator and whirlpools suspended more than 200 feet above the ocean.

The 3,600-guest Liberty of the Seas is to sail alternating seven-night eastern and western Caribbean itineraries year-round from Miami. Ports of call are to include San Juan, Puerto Rico; Philipsburg, St. Maarten; and Labadee, Haiti, in the east and Labadee; Montego Bay, Jamaica; George Town, Grand Cayman; and Cozumel, Mexico, in the west.

Liberty of the Seas is to depart Miami on Saturdays, while Freedom of the Seas sails alternating seven-night eastern and western Caribbean itineraries out of Miami, departing Sundays.

Navigator to return to Miami:

The line also said it plans short-cruising options when Navigator of the Seas returns to the United States after a summer spent overseas. The ship's four- and five-night western Caribbean itineraries are to sail from Miami.

Ports of call are to include Ocho Rios, Jamaica; George Town, Grand Cayman; Key West; Cozumel; and Belize City, Belize.

The newly lengthened Enchantment of the Seas is to sail similar western Caribbean itineraries from Fort Lauderdale and then from Tampa in the winter months of 2007.
