JoeyandDavid
Travel Insurance, My Policy on our Vacations<] When considering Travel Insurance, I like to refer to it as an insurance policy on my investment. More often these days our vacations whether it be on land or at sea are becoming more pricy. Depending on length of travel and destination, and of course accommodations; a 2 week venture may cost upwards of $10,000 usd. Of course that is for everything, from Transportation, room and board, gratuities and incidentals for two. You plan your vacation why, don’t you plan your insurance?<] It pays to be just as diligent in reviewing not only the insurance policy, but the Insurance Provider as well before you purchase, I like to ask “Is it the right policy for the trip I am planning Some Policies offer additional compensation for travel delay, in addition to rights to cancel for ANY Reason at any time before departure with no penalty. Some policies offer assistance in foreign countries and some do not. Policies normally are written to reflect the standards of the home state of residency of person purchasing.. It’s a good Idea to make sure the policy you purchase is receptive to your home state laws, this is especially important when it comes to the definition of “family†“family†the definition is different from policy to policy some include mom dad and children , some blood line only thus in-laws, domestic partners, sometimes unfortunately aren’t considered family under that policies definition.. be sure to ask! Protection is well worth the money<] For less than 5% of the cost of the vacation I know that I can insure my vacation against any unforeseen circumstance. For us, it only makes sense to protect the cost of the vacation against Weather Emergencies, Terrorism, or even Health Emergencies.. Where to start<] One of the best places to use as a starting source for research for your Insurance for Travel is http://www.Insuremytrip.com . It will let you input your information as to when, where, age of passengers, cost of vacation. Then it lets you compare companies and policies side by side. All For free. As always, nothing beat your own due diligence, the earlier you book the cheaper the insurance, but take your time and find the policy that is right for your situation. Shari2
Thanks, Joey! We did insure our last two cruises and will continue to do so.
Tut
Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. No special reason. I think, though, that from now on I will get it. As you age, there are some problems that arise that usually don't happen when you're younger. It's always best to be prepared.
Suzila
We always insure our cruise trips. 10 years ago we had a cruise scheduled and the day before we were to leave, my son had a collapsed lung...the first of 5 episodes. We got all our money back and then rescheduled later on. Having my 91 year old Dad living with us, I wouldn't leave home without insurance. You just never know. jbond
We always take out insurance. We've only used it one time, last year when we were stranded in Barcelona. Our insurance company, CSA, paid up immediately without any hassle. Several people who were stranded with us didn't get a payout because of several technical reasons. Needless to say, I sold a lot of people on CSA.
Joanandjoe
Add us to the list of trip insurance fans. We unfortuanately had to cancel a cruise in 2002 for health reasons. Our insurer paid us promptly and in full. As the old Amex ad used to say, "don't leave home without it".

SKAOLboy
im a first timer, but i read up enough about hurricane season ( only time i could get off/ same with the women) in july, but historically july is usually calm. But i not only insured my cruise, but also the flight..... ironically they are both by the same company, stone bridge. which i found weird, anyone have to deal with this company before? schatje
I found a way to get very inexpensive insurance through our credit card company American Express. If you book your flight or cruise etc. through them it only costs $10 pp to cover cancellation or interruption. I also purchase lost luggage for an extra $10 pp. I spent $197 for insurance in the past using the above mentioned insurance site. I am always trying to save a buck so I hope this info can help someone else save also. You have to sign up for the automatic insurance coverage that is added to the cost of your flight or cruise etc. but the process is painless.
