Jason
Morris Nathanson Design Collaborates on World's largest Cruise Ship; Rhode Island firm designs six restaurants & retail areas on Freedom of the Seas PAWTUCKET, R.I.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 2006--Morris Nathanson Design is excited to announce its continued collaboration with Royal Caribbean International. The Rhode Island based firm designed several interiors on the cruise line's latest vessel, the Freedom of the Seas. The ship, which makes its maiden voyage in May 2006, is the world's largest cruise ship, and features an array of amenities including sports facilities and world-class dining destinations. MND designed six spaces on the ship including: Vintages Wine Bar, Sorrento's Pizzeria, Bull & Bear Pub, Ben & Jerry's, The Book Nook, and Cafe Promenade. The Morris Nathanson Design spaces, which are found on the heavily-trafficked Royal Promenade area of the ship, are designed for the busy and adventurous cruise ship goers. Whether they want a quick caffeine pick-me-up, a pint at the pub, or a slice from the pizzeria, they will be able to enjoy their choices in comfortable, authentic surroundings. "The design intent for this project was to add variety and enhance the total cruise ship experience," says MND founder, Morris Nathanson. Therefore, careful consideration was given to even the smallest design details. Vintages, a wine bar crafted to evoke the essence of an Arts & Crafts Style California cottage, features a large bar top sculpted from the inner slab of a walnut tree. A visit to the Pub transports you back to old England. There you may feel a bit like Sherlock Holmes standing amidst a 'cabinet of curiosities' featuring antique artifacts of science and medicine. The Freedom of the Seas is the sixth Royal Caribbean ship that features designs by MND. The other ships are: Voyager of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas, Navigator of the Seas, and Mariner of the Seas. Morris Nathanson Design is the premier name in the field of hospitality design. In business since 1967, the firm is a pioneer in the restaurant and hospitality industry. By taking inspiration from such varied sources as stage and industrial design, the resulting spaces are exciting, inviting and operationally effective. MND is headquartered in Pawtucket, RI.
