JoePatNJNY
Joey- I agree- the wine list is pathetic. Is this a "new" policy or just a renewal of the old one. I was on the Connie in February, I loaded up on wine in San Juan, and never had a problem bringing it on board... I was told they crack down on spirits, but not wine... Ah, that was an awfully nice Rioja..... Joe
JoeyandDavid
how has the local wines been in your area anything fun?
JoePatNJNY
unfortunately the North Fork reds are still too immature for my palate, I gravitate to Brunellos, Amarones or Sangiovese... The whites aren't too bad, they've been cultivating them longer, a few of the Chardonneys or Chenin Blancs might even give the boys in Sonoma a run for their money! chachabell
Response from Locanda Orseolo concerning water taxi from port issue: "thank you very much for your last mail, we are looking really forward to meeting you in Venice as well! As to the taxi from the port, well, things are rapidly changing there after the sudden, most surprising suppression of the service which used to depart from the port. It's not clear whether this situation, maybe created my some misunderstanding as for the sharing of the services among the different taxi companies operating in Venice, is going to be temporary or not.. In the meantime the only solution you have at your disposal in order to reach our Locanda form the port is catching a shuttle bus departing from the dock of the port and connecting it to Piazzale Roma, the car terminal. Unless the level of the water is too high, a private water taxi can directly get to our Locanda (we have also a water entrance); the ride takes about 15 minutes and costs Euro 65,00, luggage included, from Piazzale Roma. It is of course quite more comfortable than a water bus, but also, as you see, more expensive. Just a warning on this: some taxi drivers, those who want to earn easy money, cheat the tourists and drop them at Rialto Bridge or St. Mark's Square in order to avoid all the travelling down the little, internal canals; so please make sure before getting on the water cab that the driver is not reluctant to reach us; you won't have any problem if you take a taxi of the VENEZIA TAXI company, which regularly ensures transportation from and to our Locanda. They are easily recognizable for having yellow stripes on the windows and an assigned number. Their phone number may be of some help: 0039 041 723112 (not sure if you have to dial the country code 0039, this depending on what kind of cell-phone you have... you may try both!)... We remain at your complete disposal and in the meantime renew our best regards,"
