I'm trying to figure out what to do about cell service on the voyage.

Last trip we rented a phone with a TIM chip, but we were only in Italy and the rates in country are really low.

I could also sign up for the "world traveler" option on my Cingular service.

Has anyone had experience with Cingular in Europe?

Diane/Jackie--

Your thoughts for disembarkation sound fine with me. I agree that meeting in a quiet place around 8:15 would probably work out well. I had forgotten that we would be clearing customs the day before, so that does ease the confusion. I'm sure we will talk more about it on board.

Shannon-

I think I am going to buy a phone with rangeroamer.com. It seems to be the easiest to use for people calling from the US and the rates are not too expensive. It also seems to have very wide coverage.

Shannon,

We are going to activate the International Calling program with our Cingular phone. It works in about 180 countries and I think it is only $5.95 per month plus whatever minutes you use. The cost per minute may vary from country to country. And of course we hope to not have to use it unless for an emergency. We always leave contact info with family just in case. We will activate it in Sept or early Oct. and then discontinue it after returning home. That way we will be able to stay in contact with the private guides if need be. We were going to take our walkie talkies but read on one of these boards that you should not use them overseas. They have an 11 mile range. So hope the phone service will work ok.

Chachabell, The last time we cruised as Elite they had a special departure location for us to wait and had coffee and danish for us. It was Micheal's Club the last time on Celebrity. It was not crowded at all.
