zebra
X is really good at accommodating their cruisers. When the Maitre 'd came around to our table and asked how every was I just mentioned that I wish they had Gorgonzola on the Cheese Platter every evening. Lo and behold, every evening thereafter I received a seperate platter of gorgonzola. They really aim to please!

zebra
Kareen it must be so exciting for you looking forward to your first cruise. You have certainly chosen a good itinerary in many ways - The Med is very romantic, lot of ports, usually calm seas. The only thing to keep in mind is that this cruise is probably going to be your most port intensive and exhausting cruise and that any cruise you take after this one will be much more laid back and relaxing. With that being said a european cruise has to be taken whilst we are still healthy and fit, due to the huge amount of walking involved. There will come a time in most of our lives when European cruises won't be an option - but cruises with lots of sea days will be the order of the day. A fact of life. After that dreary philosophizing - the Millenium is going to be a good initiation ship for you - she's great and we're going to have a lot of fun!! JoeyandDavid
OK i got more info about Rome Gail.... David would be happy to stick his head in the Vatican and say ah ok .. and move on.. he is not really interested in doing a structured "tour" of The Vatican and st parks square.. he really is looking forward to seeing trevi fountain and the wall of truth or what ever its called and the coliseum of course... spanish steps .... stuff like that
zebra
I agree the Vatican certainly wasn't the highlight of our Rome trip. The best part was Michelangelo's painting of the Creation in the Sistine Chapel, although St. Peter's Basilica is certainly opulent and mind boggling, especially all the dead Popes and Peters assumed tomb. Although this is certainly the most important part of the trip for the Catholics among us. At the beginning of the tour Claudio takes us to "Ancient" Rome - BC. This was unbelievable seeing partial buildings - The Roman forum - standing still from BC, oh my goodness. The historians will be in their element here! Also the Coliseum, Palatine Hill and Circus Maximus where Ben hur was filmed. Rome is truly ancient in the true sense of the word. We also had the best time at Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and Piazza Navona and a wonderful lunch at an outdoor restaurant owned by Claudio's friend. Up to date Rome has many high couture boutiques and wonderful restaurants everywhere. Don't let us forget the legendary Gelato's - you haven't tasted ice cream until you've had a GELATO!!!!! chachabell
I love escargot too. I've never gotten it when it wasn't on the menu (but have gotten a double serving when it is). One thing to remember, even if it isn't on the menu you can always get shrimp cocktail, caesar salad, baked potato, steak and, I believe, salmon. JoeyandDavid
Hi Diane~ I didn't know about the salmon... I knew I could always get a steak and the shrimp... The secret I hear or am in the process of discovering .. anything you want tell the Maitre 'd and poof it's there. So should we start a celebration list so we can make sure we get the toast off in Barcelona? I think we have something 3 or 4 birthdays in this group and a couple anniversaries .. Yes? no? Love2Travel
Hi Joey... We are not interested in a formal tour of the vatican either but i did want to see the Cistine chapel and the Pieta. The religious aspect is not really a big thing with us. We are also more interested in seeing the other sites in Rome. I will miss all of you guys... I leave in the AM for a conference. i will be in your neck of the woods,Joey. The conference is in San Diego. We will be gone till the 12th. I will be having Cruise Crazies withdrawal, i am sure. ;-) OK Escargot... haven't tried them before but I am up for it. Hey, any chance on getting king crab on the cruise? when we were on RCC, I believe you were able to get salmon any night. Yes, lets start another list with everyones birthday, anniversarys, retirements etc... we have plenty to celebrate. Just the fact that we all lucky enough to be able to take this wonderful trip, make new friends etc. I'll start.... Gail and Paul's 6th anniversary, Nov 5th, Paul's retirement beginning Oct 5th. GottaCruz
If any of you would like to read a great book with the action taking place in Rome, read Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. It is the prequel to DaVinci Code. Unbelieveable, a real page turner. Lots of descriptions of points of interest. The book was so well written , it really gave you the feel for the sights there. I highly reccomend this book
