zebra
Hey guys... wanted to mention this. I see this cruise we only leave Santorini at 11:00 pm. Last cruise we left at 7:00 pm and the sun was still up, all the talk on board was how dissappointing that we left way before sunset. The town at the end of the island - Oia - it's claim to fame is it's stunning sunsets over the Caldera. Amazing Kodak moments, not to mention romantic!!!! OH I'm so excited - as you can tell I get tooooooo excited when I talk about Santorini. All I can say, is please, please don't just spend your time in Fira, although fascinating in itself, there is so much to do and see on the island. I think to rent a car is the way to go, although we haven't done that yet. We travelled last time with a tour guide (forget his name) but at least we saw the entire island and what it had to offer and also saw that it is an extremely easy island to navigate on one's own. For those who are not so adventurous there's always the bus to Oia which costs only a couple of Euro's.
JoeyandDavid
I thought the bus would have been fun......maybe not... are you guys renting a car or a van (hint hint hint ) jk
JoeyandDavid
I see Naples...(on the cam)
zebra
Yes I think the bus would be fun... the only problem is that Oia is one way and Kamari Beach is in the other direction, we had the best lunch there, we didn't go onto the beach itself, just sat on the edge at the restaurants outside cafe style tables with umbrellas. This would require taking 2 different busses I think - also checking bus schedules. May be this would be a possibility. We would probably have dinner at Oia watching the sunset. There is another aalternative - miss Kamari Beach this time and have lunch at Hoummadi Bay which is the fisihing village at the bottom of Oia - sea level. Oia is high up on the cliffs. These are all possibilities. Tony and I will discuss this further, maybe he wants to do wineries etc - then we would have to rent a car. I'd be happy to have a more laid back day there!!! Yes I see Millie in Naples. Naples, Livorno, Civitavecchia and Barcelona are all industrial ports and very ugly.
momwig
I think we will be relaxing and playing it by ear during our time in Santorini - just to experience its beauty both natural and man made while relaxing will prove to be a really special day. So wherever we end up will be fine as long as we see sunset at Oia.
JoeyandDavid
I must agree... sunsets and sunrises mean everything to me
zebra
Sunsets and sunrises are the best! We haven't seen either here for at least 24 hours and appartently at least another 24 hours. We have Tropical Storm Alberto dumping inches and inches of rain on us at the moment, with the worst to come still.
momwig
My thoughts are with you --- as I said on the other board -- may Alberto pass quickly and gently and leave little water behind Here's a guardian angel for you

momwig
Remember we'll be there in November and the sun will set fairly early and I believe we don't leave until 11:00PM
