For those of you planning on spending lots of money on souveniors. This is the info you need on the VAT Tax in each country in order to get refunds:

Min purchase per store

Croatia 18.5% 501 HRK

France 19.6% €175

Greece 18% €120

Italy 20% €155

If you spend enough in one place you can get the tax refunded ---usually this is done at the airport but you can do it in various ways. VAT's are sales taxes for citizens of the county in which they are collected. If you are spending minimal amounts of money it's no big deal but if you are buying something expensive it's worth the trouble to apply for the refund.

Yes the upscale places will usually print out two receipts so that you can file for the refund and still have one to keep and they will advise you how to file for the refund.
