JoeyandDavid
We believe trhe surgery is timed so it will not have any effect on the cruise. lets hope so.... Celebrity no longer will allow you to bring you own wine aboard .. they are now confiscating :undecided: We don't drink alot but there are a couple of California Chardoneys that we do enjoy.. all we want is 2 bottles  The thread discussing it is http://www.cruisecrazies.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9196 joey
avie
Joey, et al., Hopefully, the restrictions on wine and booze will not prevent bringing a few bottles on board. If I recall, X had the same restriction when we took a prior cruise (january, 2005. In fact, in San Juan there is a Duty Free shop in X's terminal, and they actually shipped the "purchases" on board!!! I did bring a bottle of voadka with me, and it did go though the security scanner. No problem at that time Yes, certain lines do enforce the restriction. I heard this may be true for Windstar and possibly its parent HAL. By the way -- what is the chard you want to bring with you? Avie

avie
Yes, I am familiar with Hess. Haven't had the 2003 Reserve yet, but their wines are very nice. If I can get some wild Alaskan king tomorrow, I'll have it with either an Oregon Pinot or one from the Caneros Valley. Yum!!!!!!
JoeyandDavid
Avie the 2003 reserve is no longer availible I made the mistake of only buying one bottle... they only produced i think 70 cases... the 2004 pales but still a nice buzz

cherole
I have a lot of catching up to do withe conversation. First the heat. Joey, we are in Walnut Creek which is 20-45 mins east of S.F./Oakland. It's over the hills, so we have a much drier & warmer climate than near the bay (S.F & Oakland). Today, it's 30 degrees cooler than one week ago! Mid 70's, as some of the bay fog has crept over & created a breeze & cooler temps. Add to that, we just got new windows installed on our house on Tuesday, so my computer room is no longer miserable! We are now in the modern age with double pane, low E glass. We had original crappy 70's windows before. Second: getting together in FLL? Not sure how much time we have. We fly in the evening before the cruise. Might be kind of rushed. Let me know what y'all decide and if we can manage it we will join. Considering it will be winter and we have to change planes, always a little concerned about flight delays as well. Celebrity & alcohol: I'll research what everyone is saying. Not allowing alcohol on has always been the policy, however, it still goes on. Our friends take tons of bottles with them and have never had to fork it over. Ole and I were paranoid about it, so we didn't do it last Sept. on our Med cruise at embarkation. But, I got brave while we were in Villefrance Sur Mer and I bought a bottle of french champagne and brought it back thru x-ray and no one took it away from me. Did someone say wine? Now you are on my topic. We live only 45 minutes from the beginning of Napa Valley, about one hour to the heart. And even closer to Livermore wine country. We spend a lot of time in Napa and belong to many of the wineries clubs which means that we have lots of events such as wine dinners, release parties, harvest, etc. On Aug. 6 we are golfing in a tournament with one of our wine clubs. I think someone mentioned Carneros region pinot! Yum, my fave!! Domaine Carneros has one of the best CA sparkling and pinots noir wines in my opinion. And a beautiful chateau for visiting. They are the CA house of Taittinger. I want to get to Santa Barbara wine country again some day, it's been since the 80's for me! And I absolutely loved the movie Sideways! One of my all time contemporary favorites. As for wine on ship, I did notice that the prices were very reasonable, compared to a restaurant. I didn't notice ridiculous markups. So, for being stuck purchasing, it could be worse.
