I guess it's time for me to chime in on the current security issues (not being the shy, retiring type). Okay, I usually chime in on most things, anyway.

I cannot fault the current procedures, and I feel that we are going to have to be with them for a relatively long period of time. I can only recall (with some discomfort) the 9/11 rule that was put in on flights out of Regan National Airport in our Nation's capitol -- noone was allowed out of a seat until 30 minutes after takeoff or before landing. For those traveling between DC and New York City, one had to hope that there were no delays! And it was only a short period of time ago that this restriction was lifted.

I believe travel insurance may be a bigger problem -- that is, where one misses the boat when a flight is delayed because of a delayed due to or cancelled flight heightened security measures. I believe the travel insurance industry is treating this as a decision by the airlines (not compensable) rather than a problem caused by "terrorist activities" (usualoy compensable). At least that is the interpretation that is currently being used. But I'm sure there will be clarifiication or relaxation of some sort in the coming weeks and month.

You are really on the ball! Prepaying the gratuities this early. You have to make points with Celebrity! I talked with the "shore excursion desk" people again about the Panama Canal and Costa Rica trips. The rep. again said that the announcement should be made in the middle of August. After she agreed that we are in the middle of August, she said the list should be out within a week -- but she wasn't sure!!! She did say that someone else did call about the same think earlier today.
