Everyone has his or her preferences when it comes to cruise lines, cruise Itineraries. What about accommodations…. What is your must have <] type of stateroom? Would you NOT sail <] because there were no staterooms available in the category of your preference?

Our must have is Mini-suite on Princess and Concierge Class on Celebrity....BUT.....there are times we just want to get away on the spur of the moment so I guess we would take anything - even a stowaway on board when we're desperate  Just kidding!

My MUST HAVE<] type of stateroom would be one that has a bed, a toilet, a sink, and a shower. We spend very little time in our cabin and we just need the basics. I would prefer to experience the ship, not the inside of a cabin.

Inside cabin is fine for us, we've done it many times. The only problem with an inside cabin is that it is extremely dark in there when you turn a light out. We always take a flashlight and an alarm clock with us. Otherwise, we'd sleep through the entire cruise.

When we go on a Mon-Fri Baja cruise we always request an inside cabin. We've done it many times, we'd like to sleep as late as possible, and it's a nice, cheap, quick getaway.

We also don't request a specific category...we do request that we are not below a dining room or lounge, or the pool.

Other than that, no, there is no itinerary I would NOT SAIL because I couldn't get a specific category.

We need light, but we get plenty of air walking the decks. We won't take an inside room, or any room smaller than about 185-190 square feet. A bathtub is important, but not a deal breaker. We avoid rooms directly over or under showrooms and lounges: since we're early birds even on vacation, we wouldn't get much sleep near public rooms that are open until the wee hours.

Unlike Suziela, we do spend some time in our room other than sleeping and changing.

We have never had an inside room and probably would not sail if we couldn't have at least an outside window cabin. Our preferred cabin is a balcony cabin. It is so nice to sit out there in the morning with a cup of coffee while waiting for everyone to get ready for breakfast ...or in my robe if I didn't get to the shower first. It is also nice to sit out there for a while in the evening before going to bed.

We must be easy to please because it does not matter much to us on cabin type--just get us on the ship. Size does matter, but all staterooms have been just fine. Of the cruise lines we've been on, RCI's was the smallest, but not to small. Our last cruise was an inside and it worked just fine. We do prefer an outside with at least an obstructed view, but if inside is only available that's okay. We do like the pillow top mattresses now on most of the HAL ships. Since we sleep on a Jamison at home the hardest part of traveling is not having the comfort of our mattress. Oh, what sacrifices we have to make in order to cruise! alt text

I'm pretty easy to satisfy on a cruise. Just get me out on the ocean and I'll be happy and relaxed. My wife, on the other hand, would never consider sailing without having a balcony. Don't get me wrong, I love having a balcony, but if anyone wants to buy me a cruise in an inside cabin, I won't complain.
