zebra
I was wondering how many people still do land vacations - or do most of you pretty much spend your "off time" cruising the 7 seas?
Joanandjoe
We normally take one land vacation and one cruise each year. This year, and most likely next year, will be exceptions to the rule: two cruises this year, to Bermuda and the Caribbean. Next year we expect to have no cruises and two "land" (really, plane) trips: to Western U.S. national parks, and to Malta.
JoeyandDavid
we still prefer to do Hawaii by land
BoatrideLover
Our land vacations are what keep us sane!! We live in central Florida, and go to the beach for one weekend every month; just a nice, little, one night getaway and we are totally rejuvenated. Then in February, May and October, we will go to the beach, sometimes the Atlantic side and sometimes the gulf side for 3 or 4-night vacations. We haven't been able to cruise because my dad passed away in August, 2004, and my mom moved in with us and we take care of her; can't leave her for too long and when we do, we try to be within a couple of hours from home. But even if we could cruise all of the time, we'd never give up the wonderful trips we take to the beaches!! Dawn
rogue
Our land-based vacations all seem to be to visit reletives in Florida. It gives me a chance to play some golf in the winter.
zebra
We also like to keep a good balance of land based and cruises. We visit the family in South Africa and then we also like to travel to the Smoky's or the National Parks. We actually also own a RV and are very torn between Rv'ing and cruising. So guys, when I'm not on the Cruise Crazies board I'm on the Rv'ing Forums. What a busy life, hmmmm?
Suzila
Although we love cruising the most, we do still take land vacations. The end of this month we're going to Phoenix for a sweepstakes convention (my hobby). If I happen to win a trip through my sweepstaking hobby, we fit that in. We go to car shows all over California to show our '51 Volkswagen (hubby's hobby) about 5 times a year. And our oldest son lives outside of Vegas, so we try to visit with he and his wife a few times a year.
sailingrose
I try to avoid land vacations! My DH and I have different ideas of what a good day is and on a ship we each get our choice. He likes the casino and to nap on a lounge chair, I like the hot tub, spa, and a few cold drinks. On land he only wants to tour around, he's not a beach man but I love the beach and all the water sports. Fortunately my DD loves everything I love and when she sails with me we enjoy our time in the water. Too bad she's just about outgrown cruising with mom & dad. Lisa63
We will usually do one or two cruises a year plus one land vacation (not counting visits to the family in NY and FL). This year, we decided to skip the land vacation and take a short cruise to eastern Canada as we wanted to return there and the cruise was more cost effective. We'll still do a few weekend trips here and there, but as far as a long land-based vacation, we really don't do more than one a year. matchstickxx
We are doing a land vacation next month. Myrtle Beach. I just wanted to go be a beach bum for a few days. That is one drawback to cruising for me. Not enough time on the beach itself. Don't get me wrong. I am crazy about cruising....just sometimes I want to stay and play on the beach a little longer.
