Forgive me for being new here, but I am looking for some of you more experienced cruisers who have a good way to get from Houston to Galveston for a cruise. We went out of Galveston a few months ago in a large group and it seemed pretty expensive using the bus transport from the Airport.

Thank you for your comments.

We've cruised out of Galveston on the Rhapsody a few years back and used RCI's transfers to and from port to the airport. We came in a day early and there was only six of us who shared a minibus ride to our hotel. From Bush to Galveston is about an hour and a half ride, that's why it's so expensive. If you could fly into Hobby it's a lot closer. We didn't have that option. In December we cruised from the port of Houston and used NCL's transfers. NCL used a town car as we were the only ones they picked up for our two day pre-cruise. We always go in a day or two early for our cruises.

Keith and Rita,

Thanks for your input. It is appreciated.

Anyone else have any ideas, please let me know.

Joey and David

My wife and I will be going to the Caribbean and look forward to some time away from work and phones. I think it is important to have something to look forward to that gets us away.

Kind regards to you both.

We cruised out of Galveston this past February.

Someone told me you could rent a car from - I think Econoline - for both trips.

This ended up as about $50 per trip.

You pick up at the airport and they had a drop off at the pier area.

Then repeat the procedure when you return.

The driving is very direct from the airport to the pier.

And you are not at the mercy of filling a bus first.

Or

Waiting in a long line to get to the bus.

Hi Bryon:

You may want to look at the following website for transportation information to Galveston from the Houston Airports: http://transportation.galveston.com/

The least expensive roundtrip transfers from Houston Intercontinental Airport is $150 for 2 people through the above website. Enterprise Rental car used to offer a one-way option from the Houston airports to Galveston, but according to a client of mine that option is no longer available. You may want to give Enterprise a call or check with your travel agent.

Purchasing the transfers through Royal Caribbean may be a better option.

Terry

TRANSPORTATION:

Shuttle service from Bush & Hobby: L.J. Cormier, 281-443-4430 or 409-765-5515. Very accommodating. Even provides a short tour of Houston or Galveston, depending on end destination. MUST reserve transportation by phone in advance. Prices range from $100 to $125 one way, per vehicle (up to 8 people). Check him out at http://www.cruiseshipshuttle.com or email at Info@CruiseShipShuttle.com

Carnival shuttle is $66 per person round trip. Same price from either airport. Other cruise lines have similar prices.

Taxi: Expensive due to the distance, but will cost a minimum of $100 per cab no matter which airport used.
