schatje
There is a bumper sticker that says " A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work"? maybe this is where it started. I can say we only had one bad or unpleasant day of cruising coming through the Panama Canal just past lake Gatun headed towards Aruba and we hit a bad storm. There were gale force winds and 22 ft waves that make it hard to even walk down the halls so they asked us to stay as much as we could in our cabins. We were on the RC Vision of the Seas and I got hungry so I went looking for something to eat. After getting bounced back and forth along the hall I found the horizon (or equivalent) to be closed. I ended up eating some energy bars that we had brought along for excursions. DH tried to peak outside to get some pictures of the waves but almost got blown right off the deck so he quickly retreated back inside. You have to known my DH he wouldn't have come in unless it was reallllllllly bad. We laid on our bed and got tossed by the waves....up and down. The force was so strong that it would first suck you down into the mattress and then almost lift you off the bed. Being that we have adventuous spirits we played with that amusement park ride for awhile until you just had to sit up in a chair for awhile. The storm lasted for 30 hours and when we arrived at Aruba it had stopped raining. We found out that it had been raining for an entire week and that is very unusual for Aruba. Everything was under water in the low lying areas. The was a Windmill hotel on the island that had to move their guests because of the flooding. We found a dutch guide which was able to speak to my DH (also dutch) and he took us all over the island right through some of the seemingly impassable roads to show us as much of the island as he could. We would like to go back someday to see the island when it is dry, I hear it is beautiful. We still talk about the bed ride so it couldn't have been a bad day
