Longboysfan
A cruise is what you want to make of it. I'll go with the Veranda for you. If you want to be busy with ship activities - then do it. Want to sit at the pool and say next drink - do it. What is great about the ship is you move from place to place - not packing and moving. You come and go as you please. Dinner - not a problem - this is the only time you would be in a social situation. And the table for 6 or 8 is a great way to meet others and find out things. JohnG
You asked about the Mexican Riviera. Where did you hear the ports were undesireable? Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta, the three ports most 7 night cruises visit, are world famous. This is the "gold coast" of Mexico. A combination of the old Mexico and new Mexico in the same ports. There are strips of modern beachfront hotels and old pueblo-like areas. In January/February you can see whales and dolphins, since they winter over down there before returning to Alaskan waters in the summer.
