My goodness.

When we were on Celebrity, they gave us a very nice party ("us" being CC members). They served coffee, tea, juice, pastries, and fruit. It was held around 10 am on a sea day, early in the cruise. They even had pins for us.

I wonder why Princess (and some other lines) won't consider something similar?

The problem is that apparently, the group of people all had individual bookings. When they are booked as part of an affinity group, the cruiselines offer group ammenity points that can be used to select everything from free cocktail hour (50 people) to meeting rooms, etc, free cabins (1 for every 15 beds filled) to shipboard credits, wine, robes, etc. The exact offerings vary by cruiseline. But Princess offers the same type of amenity points as the other lines.

I've got an idea! Everyone go the Horizon or equivalent and make up a plate to pass around? They don't stop you from taking food out of the food court. Would this work? The food is already paid for as far as I am concerned. They should be happy for these kinds of groups gathering to talk about cruising.

The unmentionable board has a deal with RCCI only, so only Royal Carib. and Celebrity have official "other board" parties. On on Zenith cruise, where a lot was disappointing, this was another disappointing thing, and not the cruise line's fault. Over 30 people had signed up, but only six showed up for the party. Undaunted, they scheduled a second party, and we got eight--the same six, plus two others.

As for Princess, give them the benefit of the doubt, and assume you wanted a formal party. Ask them for a room. If they refuse, just get together somewhere.
