Paradise Beach, Cozumel

Before our cruise in June, several cruisers talked about Paradise Beach in Cozumel. We took a taxi to the beach and arrived around 9:30. By 11:00 the beach was packed. They are now charging $8 a person to use the water trampoline and iceberg, kayaks and snorkeling equipment. It's still a good deal. The beach chairs and umbrellas are free as long as you order food or drink. They will bring your food and drink to you on the beach or you can order from the bar. The showers and restrooms are really clean. We had a fun time!

I was in Cozumel last April. I went to Paradise beach. The next day I was in Costa Maya. Comparing the two beaches, Costa Maya is what I think of when I hear Caribbean. Paradise beach got hit pretty hard by the hurricane last year and it shows. The palm trees were pretty much in tact, but I wouldn't bother snorkeling. There is just nothing to see yet. (or wasnt' in April) Someone can correct me if I am wrong. I love to snorkel, but was very disapponted in snorkeling at Paradise beach.

The beach itself looked nice and the accomodations were nice and reasonable. There were places to play in the water, but comparing it to the water at Costa Maya, was like night and day. Coata Maya was the pretty clear blue water I hoped would be in Cozumel.

My next cruise stops in Cozumel and I am considering taking a ferry to the mainland to Cancun or somewhere else. . . If anyone else has been there recently and can tell me it is different, please do. I do know that I won't be going to the beach unless someone can tell me they had a different experience recently.

As for the food, Cozumel has a McDonalds for your kid. That is where I took my kids. They could get a hamburger and it tastes the same as any McDonalds I have ever been to. It is in town on the main street.

Byron,

Why don't you try Chankanaab National Park in Cozumel? They just reopened, restored, including the dolphin park, this weekend. The snorkeling is very good and there were underwater exhibits that were interesting.....a huge underwater crucifix, statues, etc. Can't see how they'd have been hurt.

"Chankanaab Park partially re-opened last week. Visitors can now access the main entrance area, lagoon and beach. Swim with the dolphins in the ocean will be ready and open to the public JULY 1ST.

Park officials estimated that 75,000 plants were damaged or destroyed in last year's storm and the biggest challenge has been replanting them. 100s of workers have been repairing the attraction.

The botanical and archaelogical areas are still closed, but could open again before the end of the year. The famous lagoon - from which the Park takes its name - is in good shape, with coral growing in its crystal clear waters. The beach area looks excellent and has new palapa sunshades, bar, hammocks and snorkeling access.

Entrance at the moment is 2 for 1, so 2 adults pay $16 ($8 each) to get in. Children also pay $8. Overall, if you are just looking for a beach club you may want to consider one of the free beaches to the south. However, if you're looking for something with a bit more on offer and want to support one of Cozumel's natural wonders, the Park is well worth a visit."

JohnG,

Again, you have come through for me. I am thankful to have good sound advise for this newcomer in the forum. I am taking notes and now going to look more into this attraction and will very likely go see what you recommend to me.

Very kind regards,

Byron
