Gregswife
all the info given here is great and true. i also have seen the jeans (much more than once) but i still dressed the way i wanted and felt comfortable. for me cocktail dress. Carnival does now allow jeans in the dining room and also what they call "long shorts". Until just a few years ago, the only time jeans were allowed there for dinner was on the first night when possibly all the luggage had not yet been delivered. hazelson
They are getting even more slack - now you don't even have to dress fancy for formal nights - sad. I love a man in a nice suit and tie!
Dan40
This thread was started in 2006. THEN, Carnival did have FORMAL NIGHTS. Enforcement of the formal dress code was all but non-existent. About the only thing not allowed on men was shorts, and sometimes that was allowed too. Since this thread was started, Carnival has changed to "ELEGANT NIGHTS." A much more relaxed dress code which includes slacks and a collared shirt for men. NO JACKETS needed. Even this relaxed code is commonly ignored. Altho the majority still DO dress up, there can be some slovenly casual people in the dining room too. I always wore a tux for formal nights and never wore jeans on any Caribbean cruise. On jeans, prior to the advent of 'Elegant nights' Carnival NEVER in their history had ANY restriction against jeans. Jeans were NEVER mentioned in their dress code. Now they are mentioned and they are allowed.
DebbieandJerry
Last Carnival cruise for us was November 2007. We had 4 formal nights. On one of them, the folks sitting next to us wore clothes that looked like they had come from the pool straight to the dining room (late night seating so I doubt they were sunbathing). The waiter served them. But we did see the maitre'd stop and speak with them before they left. Second night at least they wore shirts and shorts. These were people in their 40's/50's.
