saltydog
Hi all, I'm sure one of you cruisers can answer this. The other day a friend and I were chatting about cruising. He asked me if the ships filled up with fuel before they left port and would the fuel last the entire voyage or do they refuel at various ports of call. Also was wondering if they buy their fuel like the airlines do and stockpile the fuel at a lower price when the season starts. Any thoughts on this please so I can go back to him and look like a very smart dude  Thanks Tim
JoeyandDavid
Great question Tim..... (games tonight tonight you ready?)
saltydog
I don't want to talk about it. Local paper is already burying them. WVA is a 17.5 favorite. I think I will go out to dinner and kind of sneak up on the score after dinner and some adult beverages.
JoeyandDavid
i heard that....I saw the "spread" too.... but as you know when WVU and MD play the spread can mean a"Jam" for either team.. anything is possible..
SCIROCCO
TIM, They Fuel up before leaving For the cruise have you ever seen the fuel Tanker Trucks at Dockside? Most of the foreign ports dont have the facilities or equipment to fuel there unless its a major Port! At Least they do in Galveston and they have enpugh fuel for round trip and sometimes they dont run both Engines at full so that saves too! And while docked they use their Generators and maybe one engine running sometimes! I was told this one time by the Captain of The Rhapsody Of The Seas! Hope this answers most of your question! Sorry about your team and Joey whupping up on you! Maybe the worm will turn
saltydog
Thanks Robert, I have seen the fuel lines at dockside but wasn't sure if they carried enough for an entire voyage. Concerning the football game, If the Terps were as good as the Mountaineers I would be crowing also. I do believe, however, we can still take them in Basketball.......... Cheers Tim
JoeyandDavid
That might be true .. they havent had basketball team in my opinion since jerry west and hot rod hundley.. growing up i never understood why they accepted the lameness of the head coaches people Gale Catlett but he was lousy.. well just say I wasnt impressed... The closer to DC you got the better the basketball..

jbond
On a recent LA-Hawaii-LA cruise, we bunkered in Honolulu and Ensenada. The QE2's fuel oil tank capacity of 4,381.4 tonnes is sufficient for 10 days' sailing at 32.5 knots, equalling 7,800 miles. One gallon of fuel will move the ship 49.5 feet. I would think that most cruise ships are similar, if not better than QE2. Cruise ships use bunkered oil, which is the literal bottom of the barrel when it comes to fuel. SCIROCCO
Thanks j-bond thats good Info I knew they had enough for roundtrip and their crising speed just like race car drivers they average out how much they will need to make the Race, I didnt know what kind of fuel they used  i thought it was Diesel since they have diesel engines I thought! So thats why fuel charges havent been passed on to us!
