schatje
Thanks for posting Jackie! We were in Costa Rica twice and I agree the rain forest is really beautiful. We took a trip up to San Jose, the rain came down and a tree fell across the road. Our "Ship" tour guide got out a chainsaw and 1 1/2 hours later we got back to the ship. The ship had to wait for us. This is one time I'm glad we booked through the ship  I won't say again "Have a Great Time" because we all know you and Tony are.
Mebert
zebra, Thanks for the information on the Splenda and the free internet. That last shore excursion to the rain forest in Costa Rica sounded really exciting. I'm glad you decided to stay on the bus and that you got out of there after that torrential rain. Did you feel the bus was going to be washed away? Did it seem that the hotel and shop folks were used to the flooding and mud slides and were they o.k. or was this an anomaly where they had to do a major clean up after such an event? Were you frightened at all? That seems like an experiential shore excursion.
zebra
Mebert - it seemed to me that this might have happened before, judging by the hotel personnel's reactions.....for us it was pretty scary. Well today is one of those sea day's where there's not that much to report. The sea is like glass, not a ripple. We walked our mile around the deck and whilst walking saw large sea turtles on 2 occasions swimming on the surface of the water close to the ship....that was really a treat to see! Tomorrow morning at 5:30am we will be going under the Bridge of the America's - it seems a little early.. so don't hold your breath as to whether we're going to make it out there for a photo op or not!! It's also sunrise around the same time. I guess this retirement life has got to us - we love to wake and get up whenever we feel like it!! Of course, we also realize that our next cruise, of the Med, is going to be exactly the opposite, most days will be up, up and away early - drat!!! just when we were really enjoying this new schedule!! Last night there was a spectacular lightning storm at sea, in the distance. We lay out on the deck on loungers and watched the "display" and yet where we were the weather was perfect. It was really lovely just lying there and reminiscing about our wonderful day in Costa Rica.

zebra
We are transitting the Panama Canal as I speak. This morning we were scheduled to go under the Bridge of the Americas at 5:20am - the sunrise was only at 6:08am... so we wondered how we would be able to take pictures. We jumped up out of bed at 5:00am bright eyed and bushy tailed, aren't you impressed?? Well as it turned out they kept us at anchor for 2 more hours, so we eventually went under the bridge at 8:15am which was great. The weather is slightly overcast so the temps are much. much lower than the gruelling heat we experienced the last time through the Canal. We have just exitted the Miraflores locks....totally amazing and are on our way to the San Miguel Locks. We had breakfast in the diningroom this morning with 2 "colorful" couples - all discussing our world travels.... the hilarious stories we were told made for the most enjoyable breakfast time. OK that's it for now - I'll probably check in later again.........
