JoeyandDavid
I wanted to attach the cruiseline furnished luggage tags to the luggage now before we fly to europe. DP tends to think we should wait till we get ready to go to the ship in Barcelona.. What do you guys do?
schatje
Joey this time David is right  You run the risk of having the luggage handlers rip them off as they are tossing the bags. We put them on right before we approach the check in desk at the port.
SCIROCCO
I attach mine to the Bags that Im sure that Im taking so they wont get misplaced or thrown away, it makes it more real when I see those Baggage tags attached! Ive tried to pull them off my Luggage when we get New ones to disembark but cant break them so I cut them Off! I dont know what kind all you have but these I get are strong and Ive never had one torn off in over 8 Cruises!
momwig
That was the advice that my dear friend Sue (our TA) gave us too. So put them away until you get ready to go to the ship.
JoeyandDavid
interesting.... my thinking was In case the airline lost the luggage ... it would help in maybe identifying them quicker and getting them delivered to the ship... I stand corrected...
lilrosie
interesting David, I pulled out my luggage to Begin Prepacking and the tags were still on them from 2 years ago cruise..we have been on trips since but never took them off they are Heavy duty..I agree with the extra precaution of not getting them lost... sailingrose
Joey, put a copy of your ships itinerary into the luggage. If they open it, they will be able to forward it to the ship for you. If the luggage is lost, they can open the luggage, if you file a report and forward it to the ship. I don't put the tags on before the flight either. SCIROCCO
Hey Rose! I guess its different for us since we dont fly and when we get to the Terminal everything is hectic and rushing to get out of the way and nearly getting run over by baggage handlers trying to put the tags on there is not feasable for us So Putting them on first is better for us since we keep up with our Luggage till we check it in, I should of put that in my original reply! Sorry Gang! Dan
Princess sent us plenty of extra tags. So we put them on before the flight and kept the extras in our carryon bag in case any got ripped off. None did. I agree that it helps in the recovery process if the bags get lost. It does help though, if your suitcases have 2 handles, to put the cruise tag on one handle, and the airline tag on the other. If you also have your own business card type luggage tags, you can make up a card to put in that with your ship and/or pre-cruise hotel info in case the bags get misplaced. Then when you get to the ship, or anytime before you leave the ship, you can replace that card with your home info.
Mebert
I'm with Dan. I always put them on before I leave the house or as soon as I complete the packing (I stay packed to I can leave on a moment's notice.   ). I also take the extra tags in my carry on in case something happens to the originals. Nothing ever as happened to the originals. If they're intact, it's just one less thing I have to think about during the embarkation process. Sometimes getting off a bus and having the baggage handlers right there, can be a little stressful so I like to be ready.
