sewut51
What do you think of this? We were on the Carnival Ecstacy last month with our grandson who turned 10 on the cruise. At our table at dinner were two other boys aged 12 and 14. One night our waitress was ill and the other servers were covering for her. One of them took my grandson's napkin and folded it like they do the towel animals. It was a headless human figure. He then took a spoon and slid it inside to make a head and asked my grandson if it was a man or a woman. My grandson said, "A woman because it has a skirt." The waiter then put my grandson's hand over the figure and pressed down on the bowl of the spoon. "No," he said, "it's a man." My grandson turned red and the rest of us were kind of shocked. I think this was inappropriate for a child and for the formal dining room. Here we are, trying to teach him manners and how to act in a formal setting, and the waiter does something like this. It's still bothering me, am I over reacting? Sewut
Lisa63
I agree that this was inappropriate. Did you say anything to the waiter?
sailingrose
I also agree. You are not overreacting at all. What the waiter did was inappropriate and should have been brought to someones attention. Of course it's easy to look back on and say that, I'd have been in shock myself. sewut51
I didn't say anything to the waiter as I was two seats away at a round table. I did mention the incident on the comment card at the end of the cruise. I don't want to get the man in trouble, but I don't feel that he should be doing such things for children. cruisetarp
The waiters actions were completely unacceptable. I don't think you were overreacting at all. In hindsight I probably would have said something to the Head Waiter or at least told the waiter that I thought his "little joke" was not proper for young people. jacketwatch
Did he say anything after that, i.e. after seeing the obvious embarassment this "trick" resulted in? Personally if anyone touched my son when he was 10 yrs. old he had better have permission first! If this bothers you that much send a letter of complaint to Carnival. We cruised the Destiny once and one night at the show the headline performer got into a bit of a verbal spat with someone in the audience which resulted in an ugly comment. I'd rather not say what. I wrote a letter to CCl about it and received a concerned reply and an upgrade on another cruise. If it bothers you its best to do something about it vs. letting it fester. Get it off your chest. JoeyandDavid
I believe I would have had a strong word with the Maitre'De
SCIROCCO
No definitely you werent overreacting I would have went immediately to the Maitr De to bring this to his attention! This was very inapprropriate and if this person did that what else has he done! Nip it in the Bud right away! People like that do not need to be working on cruise ships especially around kids! Boy hes lucky I wasnt there!
sailinglisa
I would have quietly spoken to the head waiter or the maitre'd and explained what happened. Let them handle talking to the waiter and whatever discipline they deem appropriate. If all the other service you received from him was up to your standards, I might have reduced the tip by a small amount just to show my displeasure. KeithnRita
I probably would have took the guy aside and told him he was way out of line. Sometimes I become pretty out spoken if I witness something inappropriate!
