Lisa63
I've been following airfares for our April cruise out of Galveston. Yikes... they're close to $500 per person. I wasn't planning to use FF miles, but I may have to... assuming there are seats available. So much for saving them for Hawaii. btate, you are so right about the difficulty in redeeming FF miles. Our family has 3 seats for our July cruise out of Amsterdam, but we are waitlisted for the return trip...and even that is for a day later than we wanted to return. I have to call the airlines every other days to keep this request active. I am so worried about forgetting to call.
Peddler
I feel the increase in airfares will greatly affect the cruise industry as a lot have to fly to departure ports. We are lucky in that Galveston is only a 4 1/2 hr drive, and we could drive to New Orleans also if need be.
TheSkipper
I think you are correct that airfares will affect cruise bookings if they remain as high as they are at present. This is the very first time we have had a problem with Southwest and the problem is Spring Break in Florida. If I had it to do over I would have picked different dates. American Airlines FF miles worked great for our flight to and from Rome for our Legend of the Seas cruise in May-June. We can drive to LA or SD, but how many time can you do Mexico? Have friends who TRY to use Delta miles and have found it almost impossible. My BIL may cancel his Glory cruise with us if he can't find a decent flight from Phoenix to Orlando.
JoeyandDavid
i would say every 4 years? I would like to see some line offere an extended cruise down the west coast Maybe something to include Guatemala.. Costa Rica and maybe even down to Panama and back maybe a nice 12 nighter from LA or SD maybe even SF....
PrincessOne
I agree with you guys about airfares. We are doing Disney in April...it is after Spring breaks in most areas...and I was really hoping Southwest would come through with good fares...NOPE! The only time I was able to get great fares with southwest...last September for Orlando for my Wonder Cruise...my daughter and I flew Southwest for $230 round trip for the two of us.... TheSkipper
Joey, I'll second your motion re: west coast cruises. There are some great beaches south of Acopulco that can't be reached in 10 days round trip. Twelve or even fifteen night would be great for those of us on the Left Coast. We are going to do the Carnival Spirit out of SD for eight nights down to Acopulco in January 08, but that's as far south as we can get.
