Hi waterlass,

It sounds like the cruise wasn't all you expected ... sorry about that, I know first hand what it's like to have cruises not live up to expectations..

I hope the letters you sent garner the expected resolution.

Thanks for sharing your story

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Star Princess. I'm sorry your cruise did not live up to your expectations but hopefully you will find another line which will suit your needs better. Please keep posting here - perhaps someone elses review will make you want to try another line sometime in the future.

OK, at the risk of being flamed here goes nothing! Is anyone else on these boards sick and tired of all the whining and complaints? Excuse me but if everything makes you people so unhappy that you have to bring everyone else down with you why do you even travel? We have sailed on nine previous cruises, small, medium and large ships and we are sailing Jan. 20th on the Star (we sailed her to Alaska before). We have had cruises we loved more than others and people who were more service oriented than others but we have NEVER had a bad cruise. We have eaten food all over the US, Europe, Canada, and the Caribbean at 5 star restaurants and still we have never had a complaint about the cruise food. If it is not to your liking they are more than willing to bring something else until you are happy. We never complain about a wait whether boarding or tendering or whatever else because HEY we're on vacation! We have nowhere else we've gotta be! We have sailed inside, outside, balcony and suite. ( Once you do balcony, you never go back! ) The only junk on our balcony has ever been from us (books, drinks, etc.). Our cabins have always been immaculate. Every crew member that we have been friendly to has been friendly to us. Once we had a slow waiter (who we liked and did not complain) but the maitre d' removed him for being too slow, not us. We are used to eating 3 hours in fine restaurants. Oh, the joy of getting up each morning with a new adventure ahead. Oh, the pleasure of planning all the activities for the next day with your patter, a hi liter, and a glass of wine. Ah, the sheer decadence of no cooking, no cleaning up after, no dishes, no laundry, no beds to make, no errands to run, no phone calls to return, no bills to pay and so on and so on. Let's see, the worst weather on board or in port is better that January in Wisconsin. TRUST ME ON THAT ONE! That smell? Get real you have sewage from 3000+ people that must be processed and treated everyday. The gases must be vented. We have smelled some version of this on every cruise we have been on. It too shall pass. There are also occasional garbage odors, exhaust fumes, the burnt smell when Mario burned the bananas foster, chlorine from the pool, cigarettes as you pass thru the casino, and so on. Gees, breathe thru your mouth! This is small city stacked on a football field. It's a microcosm of your hometown. Have you smelled some of the places you go back home? The paper mills in Kaukauna, WI when the wind is from the east choke the entire valley and it is way worse than sewage. Or the truck that passes me on the highway, me with my top down and they with the dead cows or dredged PCPs from the bottom of the river. PHEW! I'LL TAKE CRUISING! My final advice to all: Nothing in life is perfect. NOTHING. But a cruise is darn close so Lighten up and relax and set your mind to smile and enjoy and and have a ball! I will now entertain all who would agree or disagree. But I warn you, I will never change my mind so don't even try.

BigRed we don't flame here we encourage discussion.. But that is the important word Discussion..

Everybody looks at the same object and will see different things ...

I know personally that when I learned to quit expecting too much the cruises they became more enjoyable.. but thats hard to do in my opinion because cruising is part fantasy..

Its hard not to build up expectations in ones mind especially when you plan your adventure so carefully... Nothing can make up for broken dreams.. We all understand that... and We also know that two couples can take the same voyage and see it totally different.

While we would wish that every cruise could be rated a 100% enjoyment; for us that is an impossibility .. basically because everyones ones opinion is different... every ones exceptions are different just as everyones level of acceptable treatment is different..

While it is true we as humans tend to be a little finicky,I could never assume that another's misadventure wasn't a fact, if only in their perception of what level of enjoyment should have been attained..

You posted a great post, and Hope you will continue to expound your opinions and with out fear of beaning flamed .. or flaming others..

Joey

waterlass,

Thank you for your review.

I'm really sorry that your cruise did not meet your expectations. It actually sounded like the cruise from Hell.

Fortunately, you were able to find some consolation with some of the wait staff.

I hope your next cruise adventure is a much better one.
