Gregswife
Cheryl, our first cruise on Carnival, we were outside, in the muster station, in the July heat for what seemed like hrs. There was a group of young poeple at our muster station who wanted to cut up and so the instructor kept stopping and getting on to them. Of course, the lifejacket made it seem all that much hotter, and we were drenched by the time we got back to the cabin. The next one, was in the lounge and that was nice, but the following 4 were out in the heat again. Twice, we have "hidden" in our cabin (steward would open the door, but luckily did not look in the shower). Then the next cruise, our cabin stewardess was in our room - we had been chatting for a good 15 minutes, when they announced the lifeboat drill and we groaned about how much we hate that part. She told us to be very quiet and stay in the cabin - (she did get an extra tip for that one). Our last cruise, we sailed out of San Juan at 10:00 p.m. - due to a delayed and re-delayed flight, we didn't get to the ship until 9:30. Our balcony faced the water-side of the ship and it was pretty dark out there. As soon as we got onboard, we went to sit on the balcony for a few minutes to unwind from the frantic scurry to not miss the boat. We could not hear the announcements clearly out there but did figure out that the drill was starting. We decided to just sit quietly there on the balcony - we did see the pilot boat go by but do not thnk they saw us. We stayed there on the balcony until we heard people going back to their rooms and then we went inside. I hope that the next one, since we are committed to attend, will be in the lounge. Does anyone know if that is Carnival's procedure now?
GottaCruz
What Wayne and I do is since we know when the drill will start, we get our lifevests way in advance so that we can use the elevator and when they call it we're already sitting there and not dealing with the crowds . Once it's over, we stay put so that we don't get trampled on and once the coast is clear, we head back to the cabin with the vests. Cheryl, on all our cruises the last 2-3 years, I can't remember one that was outside in the heat. All of ours have been in the show lounge, or one of the other lounges. But then again, the last 2-3 years we've been doing the 3-4 night cruises so I can't say for sure.
