YellowBird
I am sure we all have had some sort of experiences on the ship that sticks out as a funniest moment. Either something we saw or had happen to us. So lets here about them. I will start off We took a friend with us on one of our cruises. She was so excited because she just recieved set of dentures a week before the cruise. Since she was still adjusting to them she politely took them out and wrapped them in her dinner napkin because her gums where sore. Well she forgot them laying on the table. She realised this 5 minutes after leaving the table. Needless to say they had already cleared the table when she got back there. She went to the pursors desk and checked in the lost and found. The funny part was when they asked her what she lost...She had to say I lost my teeth during dinner..I cant find them anywhere. Not funny for her due to the amount dentures cost, but the look on the pursor employees was priceless..
SMB
Forget the pusor's face, can you imagine the heart attack the busboy had when teeth dropped out of the napkin as he cleaned the table! Did she get her teeth back? SMB
YellowBird
No she never did find her teeth. They said the amount of linens that was watched was huge and they would make a note about it in case they where found. Last I heard they was never recovered. I figure they ended up going in the trash instead of the laundry.
SMB
OK, funniest story about someone on the ship: On our first cruise, we met a older woman who wore a ship's crew nametag and went around talking with just about everone. Everywhere my wife and I went, this woman was there and more active than I've been in years. We ended up sitting next to her at the LATE show one night, and all I could think of was "I can't believe this woman. She's more than twice my age and has more energy than I've had in a decade and I'm ready to collapse in the stateroom. So, I started talking with her and found out a funny life story. This woman's husband had died more than 10 years ago. After his death, her children started pushing for her to go into a retirement home and were also trying to get control of her money. Well, she wasn't ready for a home, so she jumped on a cruise ship and took off. She liked it so much, she didn't come back. She moved onto the ship permanently without telling her family. She loves it. It is cheaper than living in a home. She gets to meet new people all the time. She never has to cook. She has a huge family with her (the crew) that is always checking on her. AND, she said she never felt healthier (she was running circles around me). The crew even made her an unofficial "crewmember". For TEN YEARS, her children had no idea where she was. Then a news reporter heard about her story and interviewed her. A family friend saw the interview and contacted her son. He was on the cruise with us, reconnecting with his mother. I asked how it was going and she said he had matured a good deal. She was even thinking of spending some time with him at his home in Florida. She said, however, she was not giving up her life on the ship. All I could say to her was "Good for You!" As far as I know, she is still sailing around on a Holland America ship somewhere. Now, I'm trying to figure out how to retire on a cruise ship when I get to that point.
YellowBird
How does she permanently stay on the ship. Does she just keep rebooking cruise after cruise or did she come up with some sort of monthly payment to live there...This a wild story. SMB
I'm not sure. I know she changes ships sometimes when there is a repositioning, but I'm not sure what she worked out with the line. I guess she must have some fantastic deal with that kind of repeat business.
Gregswife
My SIL and BIL took their first cruise last Valentine's day for their 25th anniversary. Now, my BIL is notoriously CHEAP. One day, they were laying out by the pool, when they decided to go in for a swim. Brent had to go into the men's room beforehand. He later explained to Pam that he had his underwear on beneath his swimsuit and went in to take them off. He rolled them up in his towel and placed them on the deck chair. Why he even had them on, or why he didn't just leave them on when he went swimming, I do not know, but he is something of an odd duck anyway. After the swim, he put them in his pocket and they got lunch at the lido deck buffet and then went back to the room. When they got back to the room, he discovered his briefs were no longer in his pocket. He said he was going to go look for them and my SIL told him to just forget about it, but as they probably cost more than $1, he was determined to find them. He went to the Purser's desk and asked if they had been turned in and when he was informed that they had not (can you imagine what the purser thought???), he decided to retrace his steps. He asked someone who was cleaning off the tables if they had found any underwear, and they said no. He then saw them on a cart with dirty dishes and trays, and grabbed them off of it. When my SIL told us about it, and how embarrassed she was to go back to the Lido deck buffet with him, we were cracking up. I went and bought a package of BVD's and on the computer, using an iron on transfer, I printed out "If found, please call......then put his name and phone number" and put it on the front "flap" of each pair. We mailed them to him, along with a note saying "this might save you valuable time and some embarrasment next cruise". He really didn't see as much humor in it as we did.... YellowBird
Okay, I would say this story tops mine...I would never have went to the pursors desk looking for my underwear...lol.
cruisetarp
Cheryl - that story is hysterical. You sure had a terrific idea and I for one thought it was a great gift. Too bad your BIL didn't see the humor in it.
SMB
That is the first "missing" underwear story I've heard without alcohol invovled. Wait... I'm sure your SIL started drinking heavily after that. Too funny!
